2023 Bomber SIG Rules

Special interest group builds are great fun and gets a committed few working together towards the same goal and helps to get modellers out of their usual comfort zone and try something else whilst sharing their tips & techniques with the whole community. If you've never entered one before, don't be shy and have a go, we'd love to see your work....

2023 Bomber Special Interest Group Build Guidelines - PLEASE READ

Subject Choices:

Bombers - officially designated bombers, fighter-bombers or torpedo bombers from any era are all allowed.

Group Build Guidelines...

• Any kit manufacturer.
• Any scale.
• Anyone may join, no skill requirement, no kit complexity minimum.
• No restrictions on aftermarket products (decals, PE, etc.) or additional material.
• Scratch building is allowed.
• You may enter as many times as you like, build as many kits as you like.
• All kits must be not be started prior to the start date - no exceptions (damaged while in transit sprue parts are allowed).
• All entries must have a build thread in this SIG forum area for the entry to be valid.
• A progressive build thread must be posted - which must include sprue and box shots, regular picture and/or video updates with comments on hints & tips - by sharing your build progress others can learn.
• You must provide a minimum of three still photographs (as well as any video) as part of your final reveal.

Bombers planes kits ... oh yes, i've some of them from the past and from the modern era ... i'll take a look at the stach to see which will be the best to this SIGB!

Talking about B-52 i have the Italeri 1/72 one, but not for this SIG, sorry, to big!!!!

Well, should have a kit and a paint set for it (thanks to information from RangerNeil ) on the way soon, first time doing a plane of any kind so this should be very interesting

That's a shame - I'd love to see you take a swipe at that B-36 but guess you'd need a new garage to build it in

Would the Tamiya F-35 kit in bomber(beast mode) setup be allowed?

I have a bomber selected but I have a question about another choice. Does the bomber have to have been in production or can I use a plane that was designated a bomber but only used as a test craft? It's a german plane - and you know how many planes they had in the works by the end of the war!

Would the Tamiya F-35 kit in bomber(beast mode) setup be allowed?

From my digging about on t'internet it looks like there are two configurations for Beast Mode - one for Air to Air and one for Air to Ground


So as long as you're going with the load-out with all the JDAMs on board then I reckon you're good to go - I'm not sure which load-outs are included in the kit.

If it's something like a prototype or test-bed but designated as a bomber then I think you should be ok.

Can you let us know the type you've got in mind (either here or by PM) and we'll take a look.

I forgot I had this kit. It was buried in my stash and I found it while cleaning up my hobby loft. Even if it doesn't qualify I can build it as a "what if" bomber.

Ok that's definitely something a bit different, and according to some quick digging I found on t'interweb "Eight prototypes made up the Heinkel He 119 reconnaissance bomber program for the pre-World War 2 German Luftwaffe.

So yep I reckon you're good to go with this one

My dance card for life is full right now
But yes I really want to build one engine or the cockpit or something

That's the one. I have not seen them all but I have felt myself physically age whilst watching!

He's a great barometer for new kit releases though. He appears to have no axe to grind and genuinely loves the hobby

There is a thread on here - somewhere - where I was posting the link to his build threads on the BM Lanc. I think I got to 12 or 14 - looks like I have some catching up to do.....

Agreed, there are some out there who drag everything out and really kill the fun-factor!

You would love Andy's Hobby HQ on Youtube. His box reviews are snappy and his build vids are the same. He's a retailer with a store in the US and an online service but he still retains the joy of the hobby. He's just launched his own kit brand tied in with Takom. First up was a 1/16 Sherman A4E8 and he has a Tiger due out soon in the same scale. Neither have interiors so they dont break the bank or kill the mojo during the build.

Well worth a watch and I dont say that lightly.

Your right and I have watched some already. I think the last one was the Sherman and I haven't seen the Tiger yet.
