This aircraft was built by my special needs son and I (Jarrod and Ben respectively) and represents one of the Arado AR196-B single main float variants that were dispatched to Italy for duty in the Mediterranean. The aircraft did not arrive with any weapons in the wings, only the German 7.92mm shooting through the engine cowling, so they added 7.7mm Breeda Italian MG's in each wing. The camouflage is a disrupter cross hatched line effect, as shown on the Savoia Marchette SM79 schemes during the period.

We know it is not perfect, but it is a decent looking 3 foot model. Please let us know what you think of her.

Thanks digger, but that is the difference from the creator to the observer; I know of several errors in the build.

I took your cues regarding the display base map. Even though I couldn't find the first choice, we made an effort to find something similar for the final product. Thanks for your input and suggestions along the way.

Thank you very much Phillip1. The base is the result of bouncing options off my daughter and Jarrod. I will tell them as they deserve that credit.

Just a note: I brought the finished build to a recent IPMS model show and contest. While we did not win anything, we did get a lot of positive looks and comments about the Italian scheme Arado 196 as well as the display base.

Amazing work ! oh boy the scheme looks hard to have painted ! Last time I saw your thread, a while ago as I haven't been too active on the forum lately, you were making a survey on which one you were going to do.

Thanks SmilesPerHour, we appreciate it. It's a good model kit. There were a few fit issues but nothing that was a deal breaker. Some of the details I added include the pilots, paint scheme, brass gun barrels, decals, and stuff. I just didn't want the same build that everyone else has already done.

Well Garion77, the paint was harder than it should've been but that was totally my fault. I'm still learning how to paint using Vallejo, MIG, and AK paints (mix ratios, air pressures, etc.). I had decades of experience with Model Master and Tamiya.
I found that if you do not use a decent etching primer that they can easily peal from the kits when masking or scratch very, very, easy. As for not being active, why not?! Lets model something buddy. Then again, I've been dormant on the forum for the last month myself due to vacation, spring yard work, attending sports events, etc. Now lets get that mojo of yours back on track and start modeling (smile)... talk soon.
