Enzo Ferrari. Tamiya 1/24

Hi all, I am starting up this lovely kit. Found a bargain online so thought Id give it a shot. It is 1st class looking product of one of the world's most amazing cars.

Tamiya's base kit comes with carbon decals, metal transfers, red and orange clear parts, paint masks, mesh for intakes, clear parts for the chassis under the engine, and the doors and rear cowling open and close.

I also bought some photo etch detail up parts, and metal caps for the oil, petrol and 2 other fluid tanks, which have Ferrari engraved on them. It will be detailed up for a bit of realism, especially the big V12 engine and bay area.

Those feul caps and the like are off the hook.
Is it the Ferrari that Tamiya isn't producing any more because of licensing problems ?

The caps are good. I didnt want them at first, being not too sure what they were, but the seller gave them to me at no cost, which was very nice of him.

Not sure, but it could be all Ferraris. Fujimi have the licence to build them at the moment, but apparently they are not too good. This one is made in 2004.

Some pics of the engine with a few wires added and some aluminium foil on the catalytic converters. The Tamiya carbon decals are very brittle and a real pita to apply, but its looking ok.

There's a lot more wires to add once the radiators are on and the engine is in the bay.

The engine and bay are well underway, with extra wires and some carbon fibre.

Aluminium foil tape is used for the heat shielding, and has been pressed against wire mesh for the embossed effect.

Also stripped the foil from the catalytic converters, i had that wrong.

Did some work on the shocks, using springs, aluminium wire, and alu foil.

The finished shocks

PE parts for the fans on the front radiators.They were very hard to paint with a brush. Paint did not stick to the brass.

Also a bit of wire mesh under them. They are only partially glimpsed in the finished model though a hole in the front cowl.

Bit of work on the carbon decals at the rear end. Its started to get pretty crammed back there. The photos show all sorts of issues where the decals were patched up, but it's pretty invisible to the naked eye. Am painting it gloss, sanding and repainting to get it smooth and glossy like the real car..

Also stripped the paint off the p.e. fans and used a permanent marker to ink the metal. Looks much smoother. Carbon fiber decal around the radiator below the fan. They're much neater, but as you can see, there's not much to look at once the front cowl is in place.













Its a totally different level of model to the 360 Modena due to the amount of detail in the engine bay.

It's coming on a treat.
I did have that kit but i gave it away as i was all Enzo'd out. I had built the FXX and i had just finished the 1/12 Enzo plus i have another black version FXX with the scale motorsport detail set so i just couldnt find the motivation for another.
You have to display it with the doors and engine cover open ! It would be a crime to leave it all closed up !

Thanks John. Yes, the small scale is very tricky, but the finished thing should be a nice display.
I recently saw the wip of your big enzo. Man, that was top quality work on an amazing kit.

Seats in, seatbelts made from masking tape.

Added these 4 silver coolant hoses. Left ones are roughened up aluminium wire, right ones are the cover off some elastic from a chocolate box. Came up ok, but at 1/24 the extra bits I'm adding are starting to get a bit fiddly for me.
Once the air box is detailed up, it should get some extra pop.

You've even simulated the oygen sensors on the exhausts ! What did you do that with ? Amd how did you know where the wiring went ?
I couldnt find any detailed pictures on the web for that sort of thing

The missus and I have matching Enzos with personalised plates installed in one of our penthouses. They look good next to the matching Bugattis.

There are many photos of this engine online - just search 'enzo engine' in google. Here's one pic showing some internals.

I just used very thin wire painted with tamiya 'rubber' paint, and a bit of heat shrink at the exhaust end as the connector painted silver. came out ok.

When i was doing my own i couldnt find any decent detailed pictures although it was a few years ago now. I ended up buying a CD from scale motorsport which had around 200 pictures on it i think.

Your carbon 'fibering' is exellent. So difficult to do on something like the airbox but you have absolutley nailed it !

I prefer the Tamiya rattle cans for car bodies. Get the oven on full blast and drag the spray booth into the kitchen. It'll have a shine like you know what !

Probably better to wait till the wife's out or in extreme circumstances.....pick a fight

Good to know, but I'll duck the fight with the missus. In the end she wins, might not be here and now......you know what I mean.
Tamiya x-22 mixed 50/50 with Mr hobby levelling thinner gives a nice gloss too.

I find that the tamiya aerosols can take a couple of weeks to harden properly so be careful of fingerprints whilst continuing the build.

Thanks for tip. Might be a good reason to do the body at the start of the build, let it all dry and polish it later.

Meanwhile, in Scotland...



Heres some pic of where its at now. The photo etch parts really look good, especially the rear end with the grille and the number plate with Enzos signature. The wiper is also an etch part, looks a lot better than the plastic kit one.
