Das Werk new 1/16 kit

Post by Stokesy44 »

For those of us loving the new releases in 1/16 scale over the last couple of years keep your ears and eyes open this weekend.

Das Werk are announcing a brand new release in 1/16 at a Netherlands model show on Saturday. Its all very hush hush but its rumored to be a subject never covered in the scale before. How will it sit beside the plethora of new releases over the last few years?

Panzer 1 and 2 variants from Takom
US Jeep from Takom

Panzer 3 and Stug 3 from Das Werk
German Half Track from Das Werk

Sherman Easy 8, Tiger 1, M10 and M10 Achilles - all from Andy's Hobby HQ

Stug 3 and Jagdpanther - full interior kits from Trumpeter

Will it be a case of 'Meh....' or 'Shut up and take my money!'

Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

My 2 bob's worth
The Weasel would be a good kit and not that expensive in 1/16, but might not appeal to the masses.
I think a M3 Grant or Lee might be a good choice for them and exciting enough as a choice for modellers.

Probably a case of "shut up.and take my money"!!

For myself - I would LOVE to see a Churchill Mk VII flame tank and fuel trailer. Or one of the British Cruiser tanks. Or an T-34 (or any Soviet armour) in any guise. All the 1/16th releases to date are either US or German - The Achilles, although in British makings is still really a US built vehicle.
The Churchill would definitely be a case of "shut up, here's the money"......

    Good call

Given their recent German Half Track I'm predicting a US half track gun truck, the one with the quad .50 mounted on the back. Wimper........

I'm not fast enough to catch it's name properly, but according to Andy's Hobby Headquarters, it's a German 8 wheeled armored car. See his video on YouTube.

It's a cool subject the 8 wheeled armoured cars. So if I was into the 1/16 gear I'd be adding one to the stash.

It looks like something that could be fun. My problem is I already have well over 100 kit's still needing built, including other 1/18, 1/16, and 1/12 kits. If I keep buying this larger scale stuff I'll need a separate building to display them in. I'm not saying I would never buy one, it's more like it will be a selective purchase for future 1/16 scale kits and this one may or may not be one that list.

For those who buy it, I'm sure it will be a nice addition to the 1/16 scale military kits they already have.
On the table or recently completed:

      1/18 AV8-B Harrier - WIP
1/35 Churchill AVRE with SBG Bridge Diorama - DONE
      75mm BMW R75 WW2 motorcycle with rider - DONE
