Starting out my thread

Bit of a weird kit, but it suits the egg build no scale and campy style
Lots of red sprue

Some chrome

Super weird instructions

We will see how deep I go into this. Maybe right out of box, maybe lots of modifications. Time will dictate

Is the Iron Cross an issue posting with photos or is it ok?
Not sure wrt swaztica and such
Got some research photos of other builds

The wheels and tires are an issue for me, might have to mess with them

Wood effects with silver tips and new bolts is the plan
Yellow/tan primer, W/N burnt umber

Glued the Baron head together and filled the gaps..my Bondo putty tube is drying out seems that is going around
I took the chrome off the helmet as it was scratched, sprue connections visible and the spire on top looked stupid
So will remake the spike and paint it like the research shows

Literally 30 seconds in the gel oven cleaner and the chrome is gone!

I think O will take some parts to the office and media blast them with fine aluminum oxide. They are way too smooth for cast metal parts.

Side effect: the oven cleaner gets rid of all the leftover 3D printing resin that was building up on this glass container that is used to rinse my printed stuff off with IPA. Like clean as a whistle

This has stirred up some memories so following with great interest. I remember building this kit many, many years ago, checking Scalemates it was most probably when it was first issued in 1971.

The styrene on this is weird. Soft and smooth, it doesn’t hold the ultimate/stynylrez primer very well. Everything slides off the surface
So I decanted off some white and grey Tamiya fine surface primers so I can airbrush them
Will surface texture the entire aircraft for better paint grip.

I am planning a red/white version of the aircraft with a proper rotary engine . Will see what I do with the wheels

Here's the famous Fokker joke for anyone who likes a giggle on a Thursday morning:

The famous (fictional) S/Ldr Paderewski was visiting a famous girls school and was asked by the head teacher to describe a typical combat action.

"Vell - I vas flying along in my Spitfire when I spotted these fokkers in the distance, I dived on them and shot two of the fokkers down, then did a quick roll, came up underneath them and shot down another couple of fokkers - the other fokkers then flew away home in panic"

As the girls were giggling at this the head teacher said - "Of course what S/Ldr Paderewski means by fokkers is that these were German Focke Wulf 190s, isn't that correct S/Ldr?"

"Yes, but in this instance, these fokkers were Messerchmitts"

Good call on roughing up the surface. Could have been a bit of a horror show trying to lay down paint on that. Even misting it on might have been hard.

Snoopy looks like he's up for it. That's definitely a 'kill no capture' mission by the look of it. Highly doubtful prisoners will be taken. Snoops is kicking butt and taking names

Messing with machine guns

Super delicate gunsights, I broke a few….which is why I print duplicates and fill the build plate

A quick black prime with a brush on a broken one just to get a feel

Then a dry brush and mock up

Found my Tamiya gun metal X-10 paint is dead in its bottle…congealed and clumpy. Worried there are a few that will have gone off like this.

These two characters have been rattling around in my head since childhood so deserve a good little dio or vignette
Sometimes you get lucky with finding a good 3D design and it prints out so easily..sometimes not.
Pretty happy with both types of guns

Got the guns painted and then installation figured out

I used a small Phillips screw on the underside for some mechanical hold, but had to modify the deck to fit the underside changes

Tail decals done and all this is just rough fitting

Doing some more wood effects
The smooth red styrene wing supports were filed with a metal file to give wood surface texture
The wheel supports had the same treatment of filing, then tan primer and burnt umber oil paint

I added a couple brass exhaust ports, perhaps not completely accurate but…
Dry fit of the schnoz

I made a brass insert for the prop to spin and filled the inside with a ton of lead foil to give weight and not let it tail sit.
It won’t, it is heavy!
