Well the toon tank I had intended to build appears to be lost in the workshop total disorganisation however a trip to a not so local shop hatched a new subject. It's the first egg plane I've attempted and it looks like fun and a welcome distraction from more demanding projects.

Several hours work later and what few parts there are all cleaned up and fuselage halves together. I do use cyno sometimes but to me seams are a real challenge and my best results usually come from good old extra thin and a few days hardening up before sanding.

Glue dried and seams sanded so time for paint. I've sprayed the white for the underside now just have to get my big boy pants on to mask up for the grey and blue topside.

What are you sticking the toothpicks and holders into? Is it some kind of Styrofoam?

Thanks Aur0ra, it's going to plan so far, masking an egg does frighten me though. The parts holder is just a section of closed cell foam cut from a gardening kneeler. I've got mine in the past from pound shops (dollar stores?), they are self repair to a certain extent so last for years and the cocktail sticks and skewers don't fall out even when turned upside-down.

Got on with masking and sprayed the grey. Because of the curves I used the Tamiya white tape, I've always been a bit sceptical about it's sticking power but my daughter who sprays paint for a living has used it without problems. It seems that the secret is masking on a clean but more importantly smooth surface, as with applying decals. Anyway with the grey down I masked the canopy and sprayed the navy blue. Removing the masking I was more than happy (and a little surprised) with the results.
Not being familiar with Hasegawa decals I thought a couple of coats of clear laquer might be an idea and would soften the transition between colours if nothing else.

Thank you very much Neil, I must admit that the masking worked out a lot better than I expected. Going to allow a few days drying before a quick rub down and decals (the model that is).
