Hi guys, I thought I would share my effort at this model....



As a (just) returner, this is going to be first kit that isn't Airfix or Revell
Some sprue shots and age of kit (if that matters)









A bit of paint. Mix of Vallejo green, grey and some sky

Nice kit! I'm always impressed by the panel line detail that Tamiya gives. I'll be following this build for sure.

She's just about as basic as you can get, in my eyes, but very detailed. Not cheap either really. If anyone has got any advice or pointers, I'll willingly take them. I would like to something about fading and pre-shading.....

It's not bad at all for an entry level kit... Now I've put the control stick in its gonna be pain to paint the dials...!

Evening chaps... Not much of an update, a bit of cockpit detail and a bit of a wash...









This Tamiya is certainly a lovely fit....

I've built this before. It's a great kit. Fit is usual tamiya perfection.
As to finishing tips. I don't like a pre shade on 1/72. I think its just a bit too heavy. Just my opinion of course.
I tend to paint the colours with varying shades, to break up the uniformity. Then with pastels I create stains etc. Sometimes I will use a panel line wash other times not.

The secret with 1/72 is less is more. Use one or two techniques not loads. Is easy to overdo it in this small scale.

Great job so far by the way. Looks good.

Great tips Miller thanx buddy. As a returnee I haven't done much weathering, so I'm gonna be learning all the time. I didn't really want to use this kit as a test bed either so you've done me a right favour, what I do need to know is about fading the paint, I guess that's what your talking about "varying the shades"? What the best why to do that mate in your opinion?
As for the kit itself, it a lovely little kit a bit more expensive than a basic 1:72 Spit would be, but its a pleasure to build something that's fits.....

Hi Tim.

There is no set best way to fade paintwork. It's a case of either using a technique you are comfortable with or trying something new.
Some techniques you could use to fade paintwork include

Spraying paler and darker shades onto finished paintwork (requires airbrush and subtlety)
Use pastel chalks/pigments and scrub into the models surface. Tamiya weathering sets are brilliant for this.
Oil dot fading (more complex technique probably best tried on larger scales before attempting on 1/72)
Pre shade with both light and dark paint and maybe also mid shades. (As I said in my other post I don't like this on 72nd scale models but don't let that stop you from using it)

Like I said before there is no set way to go. No best technique. The thing to do is just experiment. Have fun. Try things. And don't worry if you ruin a few models in the process. We all did.

I would use the post shade/fade technique on this spit. Once the base colour is down add some pale grey/white to the paint in the airbrush cup abs spray a light random patches, squiggles etc over the base. Then add a little black and repeat.

Update time...
Lets camo..





Might have a problem, I've used a cheap brand of "white tac" and it's left a line around the edge of the camo....



Also, what do you think of the shades I've used? Lifecolor RAF Dark Green and Dark Earth, not sure myself, maybe a couple of coats of Klear will bring out them out a bit better





Underside.... Not sure Sky is right either... Never mind it's all learning

That kit sure has some great detail to it!! Great progress so far..

A lovely little kit mate, basic, but lovely all the same...it is Tamiya after all.
Hope I'm doing it justice, I'm just not sure about that paint......
