Super clear III

Hi,

Any suggestions as to what may have happened here? The second image is my eagle primed, pre shaded and then topcoat with tamiya lacquer. It's the underside but this is what the top looked like before clear coating.
The top image is after I have clear coated with super clear III gloss. All the preshading has come through almost like the grey lacquer has dissolved.

U well I am no help
I don’t use Tamiya Laquer as I didn’t really like it that much…the acrylics are so much more predictable even with using MHLT as the diluent.
Not sure why the base layer would come through, super weird

I've seen permanent marker ink come through like that.

I've had this happen on a Subaru I painted with Tamiya LP Mica Blue, All the metallic flake seemed to dissolve and pool in areas when I used Super Clear. My theory is I went way too heavy with the clear coats. I now use much lighter coats for the first few coats, but haven't cleared over Mica Blue again yet to test my theory all that much.

Did you go in with a wet coat right off the bat?

Yeah I sprayed a mist coat but then quite quickly ie 30 seconds layed it on pretty thick and each time I made a pass it got worse

AH so the clear coat reacted with the paint layer thinning so much the pre shade shows.....Is that it or did I miss the mark ?

That's exactly what happened. Each layer of clear coat made the pre shade show through more and more

Super Clear III is a bit hotter than Tamiya lacquer clear I find. Take a look at your thinning ratios and what thinner you've used with each. I also found that Mr Hobby thinner doesn't work well with Tamiya lacquers.

What ratios anf thinner are you using with each clear?
