Global Scale Modeller

This is my entry nothing exotic, but from the stash so that's good.



Some progress has been made, but there's not many pieces so not that impressive.




One thing I found was the boot top had a huge ledge looking totally wrong. So I used this ceramic bur from the dental industry to thin it down. I found it to be a lot more controllable than the metal ones I have. This is a medium grade and it removes material reasonably fast, but I now I've seen it in action I may follow up and buy a finer one to compliment it.
Glueing the boot on was more problematic as I didn't have a lot of surface area, but I got it to work with cement and Ca. When this uv resin arrives I shall get to work and close all the gaps here and on the other parts.



I used this UV resin to fill all the gaps, it is sand able.



The torch is a bit under powered for the job taking around 5min to fully cure the resin. So I've ordered a bigger one. Now the resin is quite flow able , but not too much so it tends to level reasonably well. It doesn't really stick or cement itself to the plastic on a flat surface that well you can get it to separate without too much effort.However, if you get it into a seam or gap it will stay put so all you have to do is apply it then slide a scalpel along the job's done. Although it is so clear you have to look close to see if the gap is filled. It might actually be good for cracked aircraft canopies.

Despite being Tamiya, it is from 1999 so it does have some gaps and the parts don't mate together 100%. Being a little over or undersize with things like belts not meeting correctly.

UV light is recommended to have at least 35w and that will cure in 2-4min

this is a nice entry. If my mind was at the right place I would take an entry with one of the figures of my new board game I mentioned (Tainted Grail). But I have enough on my plate with my current projects. May be later if there's time left, even if I don't finish

It's a oldie, but I hope to sharpen the molding a little.

What I've been doing today is using my u beaut dspiae scribing tool to do a little under cutting because a lot of these old molds don't under cut and usually have like little sloping ramps of plastic.So I've been trying to minimize these to make it just a little more real.

I've done one arm and not the other


I have run some cement over it to tidy up the worked areas. Need to do it again by the looks.

The scribing, smoothing and defining are important steps for figures.

Tidied up the scribing a little and on with the paint.

Thank you as well. I never have much trouble with the primer coat it's all the subsequent coats that aren't so smart.

Once again not a lot done lately, but life threw a wedding and a Kids visit all in one and they kind of just rolled on one to another.
I've been trying to replicate what I saw on the night shift vid using paint filters and not doing it well. I'm having trouble with the shadows on the life vest.


After multiple passes with the yellow I didn't seem to be making much progress and the shadows are disappearing.
So I did what anyone does and pressed on with the uniform. This time I changed the medium I was using and made the filter a bit thicker. I think that has been better, but after a few more coats we shall see. I also added a real dark blue where the shadows should be after the base blue. I will go back over the shadows and try to blend them with the same base blue I think before going with a lighter colour on the high spots.

I also carved off the Knights cross and moved it to the collar.

Very nice work. I like how they give you all the tunic detail as well as the life vest. Great relocation of the Knights Cross too.

Bit of trivia - if a pilot was known to be hunting for a Knights Cross, he was referred to as having 'throat ache'.

What paints are you using for the face and hands?

I use a set from Scale 75. It has 8 colors from light flesh to basic flesh right through to Indian and African tones. I rarely use more than 3 tones plus washes.

There's also tutorials on Youtube for the do's and dont's of face painting if you wanted a hand.

Worth investing in if you fancy doing more figures...

I might have to do that.
I was using a Vallejo set.
If I get the will I might have another go.
