Global Scale Modeller

For my return build I've picked something from an area I know reasonably well, AVFs. The kit is out of my stash and a few years old now.

Got a soft spot for the Cromwell, hasn't got the reputation of the Sherman but in many ways it was better. Was the fastest tank the British had in WW2 at 40mph, highly manoeuvrable, and packed a punch with it's later 75mm QF gun. I'm going for the 11th Armd Div version, In memory of an old friend of mine, who very sadly died some years ago now, he was also in the 11th Armd Div, but in Firefly's and Comets.

Last couple days beach time


So far so good, frontal armour had a slight fit issue but easily sorted.

Been working away things are moving on very nicely I feel, some relearning going on but I think it's all flooding back to me.




I forgot to take pictures of the barrel, which is in 4 parts, all at the muzzle brake, the end cap required soldering.

I'm sure you haven't lost it.

Nice work. I bet its great to work on. Tamiya engineering with the added treat of a metal barrel. Nice

Exactly why I opted to build it, no unexpected issues with fit etc. Being my first build in at least 3 years I think, wanted to easy myself back in so to speak.

Weekend up date managed to get the primer down had a few issues with it see Here

Problem solved and looks good.

It's been a busy couple weeks, been at the bench just not had the time to update the build thread until now. So here you go, the base coat is on.




Work on the tracks has started

The chipping, weathering and washes are next

What did you use for the green base coat? As the other lads have already said that's gone down superbly smoothly.

Thanks mate it's good to be back, when I can get to the bench that is. Since retiring I don't seem to have much time!

I used Ammo 1944-45 Olive Drab A Mig-112 for the base.

Small up date from a few weeks ago just haven't had time to post anything.

Started the weathering process, added a little chipping, looks a bit stark but should hopefully tone down nicely








Washes next

Due to the weekends crap weather spent sometime at the bench . The decals are on and the weathering has started


Tracks have got to come off and be weathered on the inside

Chipping looks good.

Weekends bench time the weathering begins

Cromwell's being so new, entering operational service on D Day + 1 and the summer of 44 being fairly good. You don't see many heavily weathered or mudded around the time of Op Goodwood which this is being modelled for.

The process begins, starting off with highlights and shading etc.
