has anyone used the pre cut masking set for the GSX-RR from zero designs I have and it has been a nightmare once the silver was painted I left it 24hrs then applied this nicely pre cut stuff from them proceeded to paint the blue waited about hour after my last coat and started to remove the masking the bit that you love and dreed in equal measures, and what happens it only goes and leaves the glue behind its taken hrs to remove

Sounds awful and I'll be steering clear, but at least you got it off .
What method did you use ?

Tried vallejo thinners with cotton buds didn't entertain it didnt want to risk anything else so stood for ages in hit soapy water and just rubbed away it's taken ages to build this bike and you get the the main bit and something like that can ruin it stay well clear tried to put up pictures but it's easier robbing a bank than put up a picture on here

First thing to do is create a image hosting account like Imgur or flickr.
Then upload a pic into that.
then look for the bb code...copy and paste that into your post here.
click submit and your done.

I used the Spot Models masks on my RR and didn't have this issue. I did have exactly the same with Advanced Modelling Products masks on an F-16 build though, so feel your pain for removing the sticky mess.

Out of interest, what paint were you using. I had the issue with Hataka, according to Jim @ AMP he had other customers with a similar problems when using Hataka. I did a test with some off cut mask with 3 different paint types, only the Hataka paint caused this issue.

The problem is the Zero Designs masks, I have purchased a number of their window mask sets, they're all the same white vinyl type material (As are the GSX-RR set from what I can see online).

First time I used them it was exactly as you describe, the masks were difficult to remove, and lots of residue left behind. Foolishly I tried another set on my next build and it was the same, so I won't be using them again. I even managed to snap the windscreen clean in half due to the strength that they were adhered!

I hate to dig out companies, but I'll be steering well clear of all of their masks from now on.

Exactly as you described Gary white vinyl just rubbish don't think any type of paint or clear coat would have any difference just rubbish from start to finish

Yeah, the paints aren't the problem, mine were stright on to unpainted clear parts, and the same result.

I don't know how they tested their products before pushing them to market, but it can't have been very thorough

I think I'm going to go back to the military stuff these bikes are great and I think if I'm not mistaken are the most intense to do in regards to paints I've just done the gsxrr and I'm sure there is like 32 different paints and when you go down the road of buying add ons they cost an absolute fortune tell the wife I've just bought a new bike model sweetheart only cost £38.00 she's all happy until she finds out you have spent over £ 60 just on the paints and £60+ on detail up parts turning your spending in the region of £100+ that's when she says your dinners in the dog .
Better buying minichamps but hey I love it bring on more dinners in the dog.

The issue I had was with the orange line paints.

Ah - the laquer range. Could be the solvents affecting the adhesives??

Neil, most likely, though Tamiya & Mr Hobby lacquers are fine??

Possibly the Hataka brand has a more "aggressive" solvent?
I have to admit to taking a wild stab in the dark here as I generally try to avoid Lacquer paint. I don't have a spray/extraction booth and I hate the smell.

If you mix the LP a little too hot it's possible the paint will attack the glue/adhesive on the tape e.g. turning it sticky.
