Dale Earnhardt Jr. #8 Budweiser All-Star 2001 Daytona Pepsi 400 Win

Post by chops1sc »

The 2001 Daytona 500 saw Michael Waltrip win the biggest race of his career and his teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. took home second place, both drivers racing for Dale Earnhardt Inc. (DEI). Tragically, Dale Earnhardt Sr. would perish after a wreck on the final lap of the race. He was 49 years old. The July Daytona race (Pepsi 400) was highly emotional since this was NASCAR's return to the track where Dale Earnhardt Sr. had died 5 months earlier. This time, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was victorious and his teammate Michael Waltrip would place second. Iconic images of the two men celebrating together still gives me chills to this day.

This build will end up being the Dale Earnhardt Jr. #8 Budweiser All-Star Monte Carlo from July 2001 when he won the Pepsi 400 in Daytona. Ironically, I am using a Kevin Harvick Revell kit from the same year. Harvick took over as the driver for Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s team after his untimely death. RCR chose to change the number to #29 and gave the car a white color scheme.

Not a Nascar fan (but def a racing fan) but will say that Dale Jr. is one of my favorite people. Watched a lot of interviews with him and seems like a very down-to-earth, normal guy.

Looking forward to this one.

All of us do time in the gutter, Dreamers turn to look at the cars.

He wasn't my favorite driver (Jimmie Johnson) but he is definitely one of the most important people to the NASCAR community. A lot of people leaned on him after his father passed and I think he did the best that he could with that extra amount of pressure. Concussions caused him to retire prematurely. He has also helped many drivers cope with the same issues he had.
