Bought this from an auction site to more or less finish off a WW2 Japanese set. Everything was in sealed bags so no problems in that regard. However - can anyone spot the not insignificant problem I am immediately beset with???



Assembly is ,of course, following the by now normal practice of clamp, clamp and clamp again!!

Luckily you don't have to know Japanese to build this kit, if it had been a 300 part kit I'd ebay it....

The Google Translate phone apps camera function was the saviour here Dgger. I must admit it was a nasty shock seeing those instructions first time!!

A little bit more done - ready now for masking & priming..

Being a real artist with clamps you might have a few ideas on designing your own and marketing as Clampfest

And primed - used Ultimate grey. Bonus points if you spot the goof....




Now to choose the final colour scheme!!

Well that came together a bit quicker than the SU that's for sure!

Try forgot it completely!! For some reason the primer kept drying on the tip - doesn't usually do this - so I was a bit preoccupied and forgot I hadn't done the fin that side. Got the brush going again and spun it around to do the other side...... Oops!!!!

Yeah - shame it wasn't used in the Korean business.
Thought struck me the other day - if this what the Japanes called a heavy bomber then a B29's payload must have come as a shock to them.......

Didn't fancy the overall green top surfaces finish and the squiggly lines looked like too much hassle to mask so I went for the interim option of blotches......




Its had a coat of gloss varnish and is now ready for the decals.

Mega-annoying!!! - The Grey used was IJN grey from:
* A Tamiya aerosol
* A pot of Tamiya paint
* A bottle of AK

Viewed apart they all looked the same but on the assembled (dry run only) model there are 3 different colours of Grey!!! Grrrrr........

Yeah I'm afraid all the manufacturers are like that nothing is a exact match. Best thing is to actually mix the paints all together then you have just the one colour or course they have to be compatible too or use each bottle for a complete coat. I feel I’m maybe preaching to the choir though

I've had 3 bottles of Gunze h-52 and 2 match one doesn't and not the first time this has happened with them. The difference is marked total different shade I think sometimes this particular company gets there labels mixed up as the paint will match a different catalogue number.

Camo's nice looks good

Try a varnish with a hint of grey added, that will tone down the differences. Also, a sludge wash will help as the dirt will add another level of uniformity.

Thanks guys. I got the two large panels, front and rear on the underside to merge more or less. Problem now is the glazing on front of the nose, cockpit and turret. I think I might have to squirt a bit of the aerosol onto a bit of scrap plastic sheet and transfer it to the blazing with a fine brush......

OK - calling this one done. For now. I may revisit it when the mojo is built back up again as the masking fluid allowed paint to seep under on the little windows on the fore and aft underside sections. I need to find a way of cleaning it off without damaging the transparency OR the surrounding paint. I'm going to hazard a guess at Tamiya's AS range being a form of laquer as the usual toothpick solution doesn't work.
