Global Scale Modeller

This is the G2 or later version of the Jagdpanther which goes with the G1 I built earlier in the year. This is a Blitz version so has far fewer parts but does come with a metal barrel and tow cables all this for £24 (and free postage from Jadlams) makes this extremely good value.



all of the of the suspension arms are pre moulded













a number of the wheels are joined together and only need a bit of a clean off of the slight seam, they actually hold in place quite well without glue which makes doing the link and length tracks much easier. Both drive sprockets have a notch in the top to make the starting point clear

I saw this on a review by Andy's Hobbies. I agree that is it appears to be a wonderful kit and a good value to boot.

Thanks Neil, its definitely a kit that is aimed at the painter rather than the builder as there's almost no tiny bits to add.

absolutely no pressure at all... none.....

so it all goes together really well, I did have to use a tiny bit of filler on the front glacis and along where the deck at the rear meets the sloping down. There are no horrible bits (for me and the pinging tweesers ) and it's all logical.





there is an engine in the hole so I've decided to be undecided and left the hatch separate and see how I feel as it goes on and whether to add any other figures etc



hull and chassis now joined, the tow cables are only attached at one end because there are a number of anti aircraft armour plates to go on and the cables go round them, I wasn't sure how much would be seen under them so have left them off at least until after priming. The option Im going for is mostly green so the bright yellow of the kit might stick out but black will look like shadows.



everything now assembled for priming, I added a little Mr Surfacer 500 to the exhaust shrouds a to give a little texture and b to hide the join lines which were being stubborn....
note: just realised the shrouds aren't in the photo so you'll just have to trust me!





primed with mr surfacer 1500 black, Ive changed over to this recently (Me163 and He 162 were the first tests) and I quite like it, it went down really well on something larger and more complex



so this is what we're aiming at, I thought being largely green rather than dunkelgelb made it a more interesting subject but we'll see how it goes.

Looks really nice, the Mr Surfacer has gone down really smooth and the engine is a nice touch from Das Werke.

Definitely an interesting paint scheme!! One thing hammered into me as a youth is nature generally abhors straight lines so such things tend to atract attention - usually unwanted attention. So its going to be interesting to see how it looks finished. Kit itself looks excellent.

And now the painting fun begins...

This is true Neil and a good point well made but the Germans did seem quite keen on it in the final months of the war. Don't forget also the Allies (or at least the British) used the Caunter scheme in the desert which was based on straight lines and we could, I guess include the Berlin scheme of BAOR Chieftains, so maybe it was an urban environment scheme to break up shape rather than hide?

so the start of the Funtime, I painted the rear deck (and the wheels but we won't worry about them right now... ) with MRP Olivegreen (RAL6003) its a little dark so the mail paint will be lightened with resedegrun come the time.



after this I added the armour plates for the grills and then outlined with the dunkelgelb (AK Realcolors RC061)



I then came back and added the rotbraun (RAL8017 AK Realcolors RC864)





this is all freehand so, so far so good! Im going to let it all dry now for a day and then look at the green over the weekend

If it was me - and I know it's not - if I were to have "one more go at it", I would work on tightening the lines on the added protection plates on the rear deck. If you can tighten them to look like the lines on the sides of the hull it would be frikkin awesome.

However, its your kit and as we say on here, whatever you choose to do, its all good

Thanks Neil it's certainly different to have a mostly green German tank rather than a yellow one, I'm having to rethink all my usual processes!

I now have this to add to the pile...



lots of this will go to spares as there's two engines included but the figures and tools are ok. I'm going for:

Hans: ich glaube der Auspuff ist kaputt!
Franz:Ich habe eine Schnur, hilft das?

both then go for a beer....

Another one on my catch up list - that JP came together really well and as the lads already said, the camo work looks superb.

Those brick walls on the dio look absolutely amazing mate - can you share the process you used for those or is it a closely guarded Quax family secret?

Looking forward to seeing the big cat in it's natural environment

No secret Tomcat, I just start with a primer in this case a rattle can black acrylic for cars from Halfords (cheaper!) and then give it a coat of a yellow mix something like a dunkelgelb with pale sand (all acrylics because I can just use water to thin and get it into the mortar spaces and then its the arthritis provoking, paint every single brick and stone.....

I use this for the bricks etc





after that's cured I usually go back over with a range of washes and effects on both individual bricks and areas until I think it looks ok.

How did you do it

Painting every brick sounds daunting, but remember with a good round brush you would be painting several bricks randomly each time you load the brush and it takes less time than you think.

Thanks for sharing Paul - the results are really stunning even if it's sending you cross-eyed doing it!

Cracking work mate

JPz is 98% done now so just playing with scenarios, this has Miniarts refugee couple along with the Tamiya tank repair set. More work is also required on the base but getting there.

That JP is beautifully weathered. Seeing it go from plastic to primer to base coat to this has been a great watch

Very nicely dusted JP and the dio is coming along nicely.
