1/24 Tamiya Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 with TransKit

Morning all,

A quick pre-amble to this build. My eldest daughter went off to university last year. She loves the Fast & Furious movies, so last year I built her Dom's Dodge Charger to take to uni with her. This year I decided to build Brian's Skyline from 2 Fast 2 Furious.

The base kit is Tamiya's GT-R R34, but to get the correct C-West body kit I have had to add a Zoom On transkit (at over double the cost of the base kit!). This consists of the front & rear spoilers, side skirts, wheels, rear wing, seat, etc, as well as the correct decals. The colour matched paint is from ProScale.

Awesome. Will it spray water vapour out the sides like Brian's? Blue neon lights?

No to water vapour, I would like to install underglow if I get time.

Morning all.

I made a start on this yesterday. All the kit parts were clipped and cleaned up ready for paint, along with some of the resin parts.

The body had the mold lines removed, and a quick test fit of the resin parts. These seem to fit OK, I think the side skirts may need a little massaging.

I've painted the body.

That seems like a simple statement but it took several sessions over a week, and I'm still not happy with it. I managed to get several small hairs/fibres in it which had to be flatted back, revealing the black primer. The worst culprit though was the rear boot lid/deck. This had 4 holes for the original spoiler that had to be filled. I thought I had accomplished this, but after the first round of painting they still showed. After 3 rounds of sanding back, filling and repainting I think I have finally managed to hide them.

Off to a great start there

Morning all, long time no post.

After confidently saying I'd fixed the boot lid divots, they came back a day or so later, guess the filler shrank. However after another couple of rounds of fill, sand & paint I think I have finally fixed that issue, it's been 6 days since the last fix and so far so good.

Since then I've been getting everything else painted, so the chassis, running gear and interior are now ready for assembly. Next up will be decals.

Always amaze by your build ! Makes me almost want to go back building cars ! And like Kev said the wheels are stunning. What metallic paint did you use ?

The wheel centres are resin and were painted with LP48 sparkling silver. The barrels were turned steel so didn't need any paint.

Pushing on with this and I now have some completed sub-assemblies.

Chassis and running gear. I didn’t bother detail painting the chassis. Some of the panels should be aluminium, but the kit is going in a clear case and no one will ever look underneath it.

Are the bonnet stripes painted ?

Nope, all decals. I did take a scan of the decal sheet in case I cocked them up and had to resort to painting, but I'm not sure I could have done the colour fade as well.
