After my recent Border model FW190 I really need a break from aircraft so I've chosen a car, something I've not built for a good while :th:
Image
For more in depth about this car and it's predecessors the GT40s look HERE

I've had this in my stash for a few years now so it's long over due building.

Racing green is always a winner with me. Actually while looking at the box art I got to thinking if a person was a bit artsy the bonnet lends it self to having a face painted on it. It's got it all, eyes, a slightly raised centre section and a gaping mouth. :thumb1: :thumb1:

:cheers2:

This is Fords latest offering of a GT. It doesn't really have any connection to their iconic GT 40Mk 2 of the late 60s, just the name GT.

Still an amazing if extremely expensive car.

Building and painting the subassemblies, things went well over the weekend.

May not look like much but there was a a lot of cleaning up and various different paint finishes.

Cockpit is ready for assembly, gone for a black leather/Antara finish I've seen on the real car.

Front suspension unit, brake discs/calipers and steering rack still to fit.

Made a start on the disc/calipers. Some cost cutting going on here the calipers and discs should be separate from the discs on a kit like this. There's three (front) and four (rear)0 different metal surfaces/finishes, the cailpers (2 on the rear), hubs and discs, it's a right pain to get a really good finish

That interior looks really smart. I would have to go for a shiny exterior, to show the beautiful lines off but also as a contrast to the interior.

I reckon gloss red, especially if your putting on a set of stripes.

And you're not going to see enough of those calipers to stress out over them.

My 2 cents.

Looking mighty good by the way.

Yes strips, still not certain about the finish  I know what you mean about the caliper finish not being seen, just like to get things right :th:

There were four or five options for the digital display and This was 'Ford GT '
I honestly just miss dials and set it to classic.

Having done a bit of looking around it appears there're 2 Ford GT  One is the Ford Mustang GT and the other just the Ford GT, mine is the latter, there's no resemblance between the two, nothing. The GT cost approx $1m plus depending on spec the Mustang approx $100k a tenth of the GT

The body is now complete and its....................Image
Gloss :th: a few very small blemishes to rectify, screen and door windows, headlight units and door mirrors to go on. Bring on the wheels :th:

What paints and glosses did you use for the exterior? I have a fear I may actually buy a car kit soon and I'd like to have some idea of what I'm doing!

Thanks mate there's a few annoying blemishes but it's not too bad.

I used Zero paint for the colour, it good stuff premixed it's a lacquer, the clear is Mr Hobby GX100 UV Super clear III, with levelling thinner. You have the thin the clear 60/40 even 70/30 if you're using below 0.4 needle/nozzle the stuff is very thick, but give a great finish. They also do a non UV type.

Looking forward to your car build, if you need any pointers just let me know :th:

I'm a bit disappointed as the finish/quality of the glass work it's not that clear almost hazy and very, very easily scratched/marked, not what I'm used to on a Tamiya kit. :( :cheers2:
