Portman's Space Marines (Old skool Warhammer 40,000)

Post by Portman »

Another nostalgia thread this. When I was a lad, I loved all things Games Workshop and played a fair bit of Warhammer 40,000 2nd and 3rd editions - and whilst I stopped playing back in the late 90's, it's always been one of my favourite sci-fi genres... well, by that I mean the original slightly daft, satirical, colourful and over the top lore of the time, not the Grimdark, take yourself too seriously, up it's own bum cobblers it's since turned into.

About 10 years ago - I had a bit of a mental thing - and for some reason I started buying a lot of the old 80's and 90's plastic and metal miniatures and some of the old boxed games (Space Hulk, Space Crusade etc.), and ever since I've been dabbling here and there but never really getting into it properly as scale modelling always seems to take priority - consequently I have load of half assembled, slight painted miniatures, half painted games etc. etc. Thanks to the powers that be letting me past the 'new kit' rule, I'm going to try and pull together some of these bits into some completed units for the army I started years ago ( and the one I would have liked to have as a kid). I'm not likely to play any games, but it'll hopefully look good on the shelf.

Here are some of the bits I have...

And another box of bits... (I have more somewhere!)

I'm also trying to paint in the old Colourful 90's style - so I have this old 'How to' guide. Back from the days when GW was about the hobby, rather than making money.

Here's about as far as I got with the army I was building - these were probably painted pre-covid, or at least during covid.

This is basically half a squad of Marines (I have the other half still to paint) and an APC.

And full squad of 'Elites'.
