A LONG time ago my brother and I got into WH40K. My space marines had a lovley Predator tank, my brothers Orks had nothing, until the day my father 'converted' his beautifully done 1/35 Cheiftan into an Ork tank by basically, cutting the barrel in half and reattaching it and painting it a wiered grey colour with ork decals.

He now (after getting into WoT) wants to restore it but hasn't really got the eyesight to do it these days.

He asked me if I could help.

Here is it after a quick wash under the tap (and removal of orks)
Any hints on how to strip this back without damaging the model? some of the handles are broken already but can be replaced.

Some oven clearer's are good mate or even cheaper some tesco or asda all purpose cleaner its less than 50p a bottle just get a tub and place the model in then leave for 24hrs then with an old tooth brush give it a good rub and paint should just scrub of works with enamels and acrylic paints.
Its how i stripped the mossie the 1st time round. warring this will take the paint of every where even inside.

Thanks Nige, someone suggested fairey powerspray but I'll try one from under the sink first. I'll let you know how it turns out.

How is the mossie btw?

the mossie well im going to try and gentle sand it down today so hopefully I'll have an update later if it works or not ive tried thinners and white spirit with no success this kits as already been stripped back and took apart so if this dosent work i dont know what to do well apart form letting harvey having it to play with or do a diorama with it in the future

There's this stuff that the auto builders use all the time to strip their kits back to plastic they call it the purple pond.
It's a degreaser that they buy in the DIY shops and they just pour it into a container and pop the parts it. The paint literally just floats right off the model.
I can't remember the name of the stuff right now, but it might be something to source in the UK along with Nigel's oven cleaner.

I'll check it out.

I use Fairy power spray myself and I've had no problems at all with it damaging the plastic or other problems. A bit expensive compared to some generic oven cleaners, but give it a go.

Cillit bango works as well.
