Anyone use these?

Post by DC10 »

Im thinking about buying some Vallejo washes and I have a few questions about them.
1. What color would be best for Aircraft
2. Is it enamel or acrylic
3. what is the drying time

Not sure mate, but have you tried the flory washes? I like them as you can just wash it off if things don't go to plan! They can be used in all sorts of different ways.

I haven't tried the Ultimate washes yet (I only recently got the flory set) but I imagine they are just as versatile.

Anyway, that's what I use now instead of acrylic/enamel washes. :

The Vallejo washes are very good, if it a the smaller 17ml bottles they are acrylic and dry quite fast, but can be removed using Vallejo airbrush cleaner.

Don't bother with the flory washes use the Ultimate ones lol :th: :eeek: :cheers2:

Until Ultimate gets a North American distributor, stick with the Vallejo washes.

There are differences. The Vallejo washes are "clear", i.e. they are not a solid colour, so are useful for tinting colours, as well as adding shading. The Ultimate ones are more for adding weathering effects, save the Dark Dirt which is a good panel line wash for aircraft.

The Vallejo washes (as all their products) are acrylics and excess can be removed with some acrylic thinner etc, just be careful it doesn't take off your underlying paint as well, so be gentle.

Same rules applies to Enamels Washes to Acrylic Washes...

You need the OPPOSITE ""Clear coat"" to protect your Paint !

if you use Acrylic washes... over Acrylic paints... Then a Enamel Clear Coat must be applied to Save your paint job ! before you apply your Washes...and other weathering products..

if Using Enamel Washes... over Enamel base coat! Then an Acrylic Clear coat is a good idea to protect your paint !

I use FUTURE floor wax to protect my Acrylic paints against my AKi washes and other enamel base weathering products! over my Acrylics base coats...
so to avoid unforeseen reactions or give me the opportunity to start new... if I screw up !

just so ! I don't ruin my hard work ... But that's me !

Good luck with your Valejo washes... I might look into them in the future...
and the Ultimate when I get the chance !
