I know a few of you are new to forums so thought I would pop a thread up to see if there's any forum related questions you would like answering, be it a general question, or you want to know how to do something or what something means etc.

Also don't forget that handy little "view new posts" button just below the time and date at the top right of the screen, that will show all new posts since you last visited and is a lot easier than going through each section.

I have just found them links under the time and it makes looking at posts much easyer god i am slow sometimes haha

Well.....I'm still not getting ANY notifications of new posts or PM messages from the site.
So if anyone sends me a PM or posts to one of my threads I will never know.

It must be something your end Howard we have checked everything our end, and have even been in touch with our server providers.

Regular visits to the forum will show you new posts and pm's

My notifications work fine.

Is anyone else having trouble?

Take a screen capture of all your user CP pages for me Howard an I'll have a look....

Paul i can't seen to post youtube videos or photobucket images. I copy a youtube link then click on the youtube and paste it in the middle of youtube link, see below

[youtube...My link...[youtube] and i do the same with IMG but it doesn't post pic, i'm i doing something wrong. In what order should i do it, should i post it the end of link...[youtube][youtube]my link or is it at the start...i know i'm doing something stupid its probably something simple haha...help

some youtube videos urls are now https (used to be http), the s means that they are 'secure' and can't be copied or accessed from other websites, only youtube.

i.e.
http: //utube/myvideo - this can be shown here
https: //utube/myvideo - this can't be shown here

I am new to the forums, and have TONS (okay for you metric guys: TONNES... lol) of questions, some not exactly 'How do I make (put noob details here)', but others as well. Is there a particular thread these questions should be placed?

I am having a lot of confusions about definitions (I think I understand the concept of group build, but shadow build? HUH?). I also want to learn better techniques on some aspects of scale modelling. (Yeah I editted in 'scale' there... I got this screamingly WRONG image of me vogueing when I wrote "modelling" and think I need mental floss now...>.<)

Hi Paul, I am trying to put a new post in the I spy SIG to update the one I have already put in when I joined the build. Do I do it by posting a reply? In other words I post a reply to my first post therefore updating the build.

Hey, this is a particular peeve I have with all forums and I was wondering if there is a way to defeat this: I vulture around in several threads of say the models finished posts, I go from page n to page n+1 (ooooh ALGEBRA!). I see a post with x posts and when I'm finished with it, I hit return to the thread menu, ALL the way back to page 1! This irks the bejeebers out of me because too many times I have bouts of Old Timers Disease and completely forget whatever page I want to get back to.

So, simply, IS there a way to go from a thread, back to the page it was located on?

Paul, Something I could never figure out was what one would do to become a average active user ? I myself normally just get on check to see if I have any private messages, then check modeling chat then general chat. What all does one do on this forum of those who would be labeled a "active member" ? I'm very forum stupid hahaha. I'd like to be more active but have no clue beyond what I explained that one would do. I forget half the threads I comment on or start because I rarely get notifications anymore unless I used a old email and don't have access to that email anymore. I need to go look at my account settings I reckon.

Best thing to do is visit regularly and use the "new posts" button that way you will see all new posts since your last visit

easiest way is to open a new tab, right click on it a menu should appear . click on open in new tab then you can have more than one page open so you can't lose it.

Not a question but an idea. How would anyone know if someone commented on a thread you created. I feel that this is one thing from Facebook that is useful to the forum. It may not be as annoying as Facebook with the phone notifications but having an easy way of keeping track of your forum threads.

I noticed the ranking system of Private, Corporal, etc. What are the ranks and what threshold of posts are each rank. Example, Private may up to 25 posts and Corporal may be up to 75 posts.

If you click the drop-down menu that looks like a spanner above the thread, you will see an option for "subscribe topic". Click that and you'll get notifications when people reply.

There's a way of doing this - if you go into one of your threads (or any others for that matter) there is a Spanner icon at the top left corner above the first post (next to "Post Reply"). Click on this and then click "Subscribe Topic" - you'll get e-mail notification when someone posts on your subscribed topics.

You should only get one notification for each topic between logins, so if five people comment on one of your threads you'll only get one notification per thread until you login again.

Not sure mate but to get a commission you have to send Paul and Lee a case of scotch. That's why I'm still a CWO

I think the ranks are based on (US) army grades. As for thresholds, easiest way is just to look at members details on their posts, that will give you a rough idea. I'm a CWO5 just shy of 3000 posts - as of today anyway.

1st Lieutenant is about 3500
general is about 8000.

Good call on the "view new posts" button, Paul! I also recommend getting familiar with the search bar—I've found it really handy when I'm looking for answers to specific questions without having to scroll through everything. It's saved me time a bunch of times, especially when I’m diving into a topic that’s already been covered.

Nice one for the tip about the "view new posts" button; it definitely saves a lot of aimless scrolling when you only have a few minutes to check in. I've been lurking on various boards for years, and the biggest thing I’d suggest to anyone starting out is to get comfortable with the search bar before starting a new thread, it usually keeps the veterans from getting grumpy about repeat topics. It’s a solid way to keep the community organized and actually find the info you need way faster.

Hello beck to this site and the hobby after about 6 years of not building a thing finally finished my first model Dio in that time so will share it on here ..look forward to seeing some of your work and if any of the old school are still on here
