AIRFIX 1/72 BAC Lightning F3 (Old tool)

This is the completed Airfix 1/72 BAC Lightning, the old tooling as it were.. built straight out the box just for a bit of fun! Have heard so many bad things about this kit, but I enjoyed the build (decalling apart) and it looks like a Lightning to me, now it is done.. :th:

The decals gave me a bit of grief, they were out of register, and very thin which meant the folded up on themselves or just simply crinkled and shrivelled up into nothing. Luckily the biggest offenders were underneath where it won't really show that they are missing.. :shhh:

Anyway, enjoy, such as it is:

Really nice Basic, such a classic jet. Did you say you're waiting to get the new tool one? Me too, but I might go for the 1:48. I say that only because I'm finding 1:72 a bit small for me ageing eyes

Yes, I hope to get my hands on the new tool as soon as it is out.. :) The 1/48 Lightning is quite old but still an extremely good kit from what I have heard! I do dabble in 1/48 scale as well from time to time so I might just get it in 48 scale as well.. :) Can't have too much of a good thing.. :)

Looks good Rob, personally find it could do with a wash to add some definition in places, especially the missiles. But as with all your builds its well built, its neatly painted and its a good job made of an older kit.

I look forward to seeing you tackle the new 1/72 Lightning, it should be a cracking kit.

One of my all time faves! Nice build mate, did it give you any problems? I'm looking forward to the new tool as well! Trumpeter do some Lightnings in 1/72, really nice kits but quite expensive!

The decals was the main issue!! But overall the kit was ok, for such an old issue! MUCH looking forward to building the new tool and any other version Airfix will offer, I think they have a few planned.. :)

I did their 1/48 kit not so long ago, very nice and cheap! Only issue I had were the wheel well covers. They're fine for wheels down but mine was in flight so had to make new ones to fit. Other than that, a great kit. I'd deffo recommend it if you like Lightnings.

I have considered getting that kit at some point and I probably will.. :) I like anything that flew during the 'Cold War', regardless of on what side. But the Lightning in particular is such an iconic jet.. :)
