Could you wonderful people tell me the best way to paint the oval bit at the front of a canopy ( f14 and f4 phantom) with transparent colours.
It's not just canopy's I'm having trouble with its the top of helicopter glass work too (ie, a sea king has green glass above the seats)
I have tried and tried but it just looks crap. it pools around the edge and doesn't give a nice even looking coat to it.
Please please help!!!!!

Are you airbrushing or using a hairy stick?

but will do either if it works

I would say have a go with the airbrush and do it in very, very light misting coats and build it up slowly

I had the same problem with my OV-10a Bronco, so had an experiment with ink. I used Revell Contacta Clear on the inside of the fusalage and when that was still tacky brushed on a coat of Derwent Inktense sea blue.

I use Humbrol clear colours and don't have many troubles but it does need mixing A LOT and white spirit dosen't cut the mustard when cleaning. Need to get the heavy guns out to clean the brushes ie cellulose thinners.

Oh and normally applied with a flat brush unless the shape of the part being painted makes this impractible.

If your airbrushing give Tamiya's transparent colours a go. Another tip, which I haven't tried, is to dilute your colour (acrylic) in Klear and then spray that.
