Hi Peeps.

Yesterday I placed a wanted advert on one of the Facebook model pages which I belong to. I was looking for a second-hand reasonable priced Sd.Kfz. 173 Jagdpanther in either 1/48 or 1/35 scale for a diorama for next year. Well someone contacted me saying they have a 1/48 and 1/35. Great. Wrong. So I ask for a price having already checked prices on a few model shop sites. He answers with a price which is nearly double the price that I could get locally. The price did include postage. Wow. A little steep to me I think. I returned by saying that I could obtain kits new for half his price, then he goes on to offer me a 75% discount if I brought one of the kits if I also brought another kit (USS Enterprise) for £100. ( Do I look stupid) Quick check of price I can get the USS Enterprise for less than £20. Daylight robbery comes to mind. So I leave a message "No Deal" and He sends this "Why". I was not born yesterday. Now thinking a good reply.

How stupid do you have to be!!!! Just say how much you can buy them for locally and then demand a lower price. If he says no then you have met an idiot. What a disgrace to this hobby!!!

Clearly, this individual is only looking to make money. I doubt if he even engages in the hobby. This is why I almost exclusively purchase model kits at shows and from club members. No silliness and B/S to deal with.

Sounds like the prices are guesses at best and maybe he doesn't have any kits at all, could be a scam, Paul is good at dealing with scammers, should have asked the guy how many sprues the kit had

i understand where your coming from Tony, maybe e-bay bargains might be better,

i bought some kit parts from Poland cheaper than Ireland or Germany and a lot cheaper than the UK.

He is not worthy of your time and i would ignore his replies to be honest.

Made me laugh when he told me that he buys in bulk. Scam it could be. I have sold well over 100 kits on FB and another forum no problem, but trying to buy one kit. Now he sends me excuses.

The art of buying and selling is rapidly fading away, I saw an Airfix 1980's Lancaster on eBay the other day with a £20 p&p charge - now I know Royal Mail's pricing are increasing but this is nuts!

On the other hand, I spotted on a Facebook "buy & sell" page yesterday a "load of Airfix magazines" for £5, which looked like an assortment of magazines and catalogues. I sent him a message and went round today to collect but when I got home and looked in the bag it was full of British Railway Modelling magazines - not my thing at all! I got on to Facebook to give him a piece of my mind but he'd already sent me a message apologising so I went back round there to get the right bag and he said I could keep both lots by way of an apology!

The moral of that story, Tony, is that there are some decent people left in the world and not to give up hope!

I have not given up hope. I too saw the eBay Lanc. I have dealt with quite a few people on FB and another forum and they have all been very decent.

I' don't even do Facebook, are you covered by Paypal (presumably what you would use to buy?) on Facebook sales, maybe I should try Facebook if the sale buying aspect is healthy? Ebay fee's for selling are extortionate

One point Tony, if his USS Enterprise is the 1/350 Tamiya kit they sell for well over £100 new now, why he would be offering you that when your interest is in another genre I don't know though?

Fully understand your frustration and anger Tony - decent people expect to be treated decently. I teach martial arts and our main message is restraint - I tell my students that knowing in yourself that you can control a situation is enough and that walking away is always the best option.

Don't dignify this punk with an answer - "walk" away.

And if this proves to be too difficult, give me a call and we'll go and kick his ass!!

Can't blame the guy for trying 2 make a couple of bucks but that is crazy.
I always add a few dollars to kits I sell online (I keep track of what I paid) to cover the time and hassle of safely packing up the kit and standing in queues at the post office hoping it's not .5 of a centimetre bigger than I thought and getting sting for the next size up.

That said I also check local sites to see what they are selling them for and my prices are pretty much always lower as I import most of my kits so everyone wins.

There are some decent people left thankfully and definitely agree, on e-bay the postage has gone nuts as PhildaFish (great name by the way ) mentioned way too high in comparison to Germany and Poland.
