Italeri 1/48 Hawker Hurricane Mk. IIc

Post by T3hGuppy »

So with my modelling mojo a bit low this last week I decided to crack this one open/

This build is for a friend and I am looking forward to working on it.

Image
This is a new mold kit from Italeri.
Some beautiful box art. You carn't beat a hand painted scene on model kits IMO.

The sprue shots!
Image

Image
Really nice detail on this one much better than I expected.

Image
Includes a really nicely done engine aswell.

Image

Image

Image

Image
Small bit of photo etch as well this is nicely done and includes a seatbelt! (Something I think all aircraft kits should include.)

Image
A nice large decal sheet with all the options includes. Also the lettering is done separately so other aircraft can be modelled.

Image
Clear parts are the only let down and will need a good polish and dip in klear to get the most out of them.

Image
Image
I bought a resin pilot for this as it will be modelled coming in for landing.
This is a really nice figure and should look nice painted up in RAF colours.

The instructions.
Image

Image

Image

Image
These are laid out really well and clearly show options for canopy open/closed and gear up or down.

Image

Image

Image

Image
Six full colour paint schemes are included
I will be doing a variation on the standard green/grey camo with invasion stripes on the tail boom at request.

This is a really nice kit and much better than I expected. Hoping that the fit is as good.

Anyway that's it for now except update soon.

Hmm, this kit might have to go onto my "to get" list. I do like the Hurricane, but as I mentioned elsewhere I don't like them in 1.72 for some reason. But in 1/48 they look better.

I also notice it includes a scheme for No. 1 Sqn at Redhill, which has sold it for me (I was born in Redhill).

I look forward to your build.

Guppy

I built the Mark I when it came out, if I remember correctly the biggest issue was the cockpit, so just a heads up to dryfit early and test it.

Here's mine before I stuffed up the weathering and if you look closely you will see the ill fitting cockpit.

Image

Sorry to post a pic in your thread but I wanted to give you the heads up, so you didn't get caught like me.

cheers

Same here. This kit intrigues me. Also the outfit on the pilot. The headgear and goggles looks mistakenly like Luftwaffe. That's not a critique of course.

An update will be soon now my other build is out of the way.

I believe the pilot is supposed to represent a French pilot but will do for my purposes.

Yeah looking to be a good kit. a couple of bits of flash but nothing major.

Started work on this tonight.

Cockpit tub taken as far as I can before painting. didn't use the PE harness so that can go in the spares box for another build.

Image.

Next is the engine block. in two minds weather to paint this as wont be seen. Will decide closer to the time.

Yeah the detail is pretty good it is alittle soft in some places.

A word of warning with this one I've come across quite a few mis labelled parts in the instructions.
Luckily the part count isn't huge so found the parts on the sprue without too much hassle.

So the rest of the interior is built and ready for paint.
Image

And the engine the fit is a little off on this but a bit of filler and it will be all good.

Image

As I am modelling this in flight this wont be seen so no issue for me.

As always comments and critic welcome. :th:

i like the look of this kit so far Ben, and im interested to see how the instrument panel looks and the engine looks pretty decent, maybe they would have been better just offering the exhaust manifolds as an option as well as the full block.

Coming along just dandy, sir!

A fellow club member built this thing (in a weekend, believe it or not) in the colours of Douglas Baders plane. Looks a lovely kit with lots of nice cockpit detailing.
