Thank you Gentlemen.. :)

And in answer to your question, 'ScaleModelling', I used a Tesco value photoframe (sadly they don't seem to sell them anymore) on which I placed a small dune or ridge of sand, shaped and made from Milliput..

I put a very liberal amount of PVA glue all over the base and the Milliput ridge, and scattered planty of 'birdsand' all over, and left to set overnight.. before removing any excess sand and adding more in a couple of places.

The 'grass and shrubbery' is just basic railway scenic material, can't recall what make now, but nothing out the way.. and the dead trees (based on photos of real dead trees in the desert) are simply cut off branches of a Honeysuckle bush in the garden, just glued in place with superglue.. they needed no further 'treatment' as they looked pretty much spot on as they were.. :)

Keeping it basic, that's what I do..

Thanks Rob. Simple and effective. Sand looks great. Wasn't sure if it was sand or sandpaper. Now I know.
Cheers,
