Found some interesting tank designs from days gone by. Many of them will be familiar to most of you, but I found a few I had not seen before. Some of them are pretty far fetched. Enjoy.

Some of these are a steampunker's wet dream. Or rather a dieselpunker's. The big red submarine is brilliant and the quadracylist - I hope that's an armoured bowler he's wearing!

I love such obscure projects, especially the weird designs they had at the very beginning and the 20´s.

I think thats some kind of Italian artillery tractor with some armour.

Meep Meep, Panzer I with a Panzer III turret, was used for training. Would make an interesting model.


I think this tank design is called "Grille", it has a big 88mm FlaK.




This Bren Carrier looks certainly a bit top-heavy.

That Russian Behemoth looks epic. I'd love to build one. Probably not the easiest tank to control. Reminds me off a ship with wheels and tracks, with the 3 sets of guns 1 in front of the other.

There are lots and lots of interesting and weird tanks, some more:


The Wehrmacht 'Kugelpanzer' (Spherical Tank) design, looks funny, but they actually had a prototype.


Some hybrid tank with a Soviet T-55 hull and an American M18 Hellcat turret.


The E-100 Sturmgeschütz project, imagine the thick, sloped armor! On top of that, a 17cm gun, but they didn't even make it to a whole E-100 prototype.


Krupp-Steyr Waffenträger, looks very interesting.


A very weird hybrid from the movie 'Saving Private Ryan', a Tiger on a T-34 suspension.

It's a very nice kit by the looks of it BUT it isn't a 'Grille' nor is the picture a Grille . The 'Grille' was a spg or mobile artillery the smaller version of the more known 'Hummel' that on the picture and the kit are Mobile AA

I actually really like the Tsar tank, something about it makes me smile, just a shame it failed on its first field test in front of some top brass. A novel prototype though.

Ive seen a papercraft template floating around, might be a fun plasticard scratch build...

Problem is that the Versuchswaffenträger was only a prototype but its part of the Grille line. Most likely it never had this nickname officially, i don´t know but its a useable term in this case.

Its scary how modern it looks! More like a weapon of the late 60´s or 70´s than a design of the 40´s.
