HMS Anchusa 1/350 Mirage Hobby - Completed

This build took me so far out of my comfort zone that I was, well, uncomfortable!
First time ship (since the 60’s anyway), photoetch, stretched sprue* and rigging. None of it went brilliantly (see video for details) and as a result the model does not bear close scrutiny. But, seen at a reasonable distance and through squinting eyes, it does look like a ship mid convoy and I am proud of it. I’ll do another ship for sure.

Lessons learned:
Photoetch requires patience and dexterity - neither of which I possess. But i will be back for more.
Paint and build at the same time - it is not possible to build first, as I did, and then expect to get in and get to the details
Stretched sprue is great. When using it - do not let your hair dryer (used to tighten already placed sprue) linger or your sprue will melt and you will have to start again.
Do not mix sprue colours - who’d have thought that the difference between two slightly different greys would show up quite so clearly!
Don't forget to apply the transfers (i'll have go back one day to add the ship number)
Leave gluing sticky-out bits to the end - you are sure to knock them off
Its worth it in the end.

It wasn't until I saw the picture next to the Tamiya paintpot that I realised how small the model is! It is superbly detailed, and beautifully painted and weathered!! Great job, well done!!

Or
Revell Contacta for plastic to plastic (dip the end in a small puddle and apply to the model with the gentlest of dabs!) and CA plastic to brass. When attached, a waft with the hot setting of a hairdryer from a reasonable distance to stretch tight. the first time i did it I was so pleased and mesmorized with the effect that I left the heat on too long and three bits I wasn't looking at overtightened and snapped - Doh!

Oustanding work on the corvette. Looks bigger than 1:350 scale. Even after first and second take. Most impressive workmanship. She's a miniture giant!

That's stunning, I was completely shocked when I seen it beside the paint, I was expecting it to be huge. The weathering and paint work is amazing, well done
