Monogram Bomber Series

Post by DesertAAModeller »

After hearing of the GB for 2014, 100 Years of Bombers, I immediately thought of Monogram's 1/48 B-29. This then brought up the question I thought to ask here: Has anyone else built any of the 1/48 bombers from this series? While the raised panel lines may put some people off, it was typical of kits from that era however Monogram, unlike Revell, had excellent interior detailing on their kits. When Revell merged with Monogram, all the kits in the series had been re-issued in Revell boxes in which they currently reside on the market and are readily available now. Also for those that have built any of the kits, what was your experience like? Did you like or dislike it? would you prefer to have a brand new tooling of it?

By the way, I'm specifically interested in the 1/48 B-29, not really a lot of current build info on the web about it and would really appreciate some links or info regarding it.

Best wishes

I have built the 1/48th and 1/72nd scale Monogram Bomber kits in the past from the B-17 to the B-52. The 48th scale kits have great detail for the interior, with reguards to the B-29 flt deck and bomb bay detail is great, but will be mostly lost when the fuselage is put together as the windscreen has a lot of framing to be painted. The bomb bay will be about the only thing visible from the outside. and you better have someplace to put this huge monster or hang it from the ceiling as I did w/ all my big bombers.
