Trumpeter 1/35 JGSDF Type 99 HSP

Post by Gav0909 »

Hey guys,

I didn't bother doing a big log on the actual build progress of this as I was just doing this as a background slow build. But recently with me finishing the Harriers, and shelving the A10 I went back to this over a few random nights between work. And on Monday there I got this beast built up and so next step is painting.

But I thought I would share the build so far with you. And so here is the monster Type 99.

Lots of tiny details on this. The last picture shows the small hooks etc around the turret, they are all individual pieces! Plastic photo-etch as Freddy Duarte would say!

Got the tracks to do, they are indy links I need to make into sections, then add to the model to get the shape. Hopefully I can then get them off and paint them whilst they are in the required shape.

One thing I don't like is that there are no poly caps for the road wheels. And while they fit, they are a loose fit without caps. The tyres are rubber, which I quite like. I will keep them off until the wheels are painted, but will scuff them up before installing them. They will get weathered with the rest of the tank though. But it saves me masking and then repainting tyres on the wheels.

Your thoughts and comments are welcome.

Cheers

So here we have the current state of the Type 99. The green and brown camo is done now. I am not hugely impressed with the brown, as its totally different to the real life shade, but in the end I am not repainting it again so it will stay as is.

Next step is to make up the indy link tracks.

I still have all the details to paint, washes to do and weathering as well as add the few decals.

Will update when more progress has been made.

Got the tracks finally made up and primed for this the other day.

So just got to paint the tracks, then I can varnish the tank in prep for washes, decals etc.

No pics sorry, but the work slowly continues on the Type 99. I have glossed her as well as used the AK NATO wash. The effect is ok, but not great. I think next time I may used the Ultimate Dark Dirt, as its easier to remove and control where you want it to go. Decals are done, and next will be another Klear coat and a little bit of dot filtering to just tone down the overall colour a bit. I think I will main,y used white to "bleach" out the colours a little and create some fading.

Will try to get some pics up tomorrow.
