If you had a friend that was just getting into the hobby who wanted
To build Armor, Tanks, & Aircrafts. What one magazine would you
Recommend he buy best bang for the buck for step by step of how to
Build a model as well as explanations of different techniques and tips. What
Is your one magazine you would recommend a newbie buy for the most information
Best bang for the buck.

Not an expert here or anything; I haven't read half of the magazines out there, but here in Canada I like Fine Scale Modeler as it's got a great mix of reviews, techniques, and tips for things like airbrushing etc. It's pretty much Model Railroader Magazine but for armour, aircraft, and ships (they're sister mags). Tamiya one's pretty good too, along with Model Military Magazine but I find MMM to lack in technique walkthroughs and such, it's mostly reviews and builds. I'd say FSM though, it's helped me through my first year of building quite a lot, but there's probably some experienced opinions out there.

I mainly buy and read Airfix Model world. Has a good mix of subjects and some nice tutorials and easy to follow builds.

I like FSM. Their homepage is annoying though with tons of popups with SUBSCRIBE NOW! Even though I am subscribing

If I had to choose one it would be Tamiya with AMW a close second

Depends on where you are I think Hooteville75, US? Here in Australia the hardcopy magazines can be up to $15 and are 3 months behind their release dates in England or the States.

That being said the Airfix magazine is really good, it has a broad range, Armour, Planes, cars etc, which should be a good introduction to the modelling world. Once he's gotten into the hobby there are various targetted publications that he can explore depending on his interest.

Myself I only regulary buy Scale Military Modeller International, it's primary AFV's, figures, 2 pages of Ships and books/DVD reviews, every now and then I buy Military Modeller International (tends to have some good but long running how to's) also it's mostly AFV's with only a few plane reviews/builds in it. For Aircraft I buy Scale Aviation Modeller when there is a build that I am interested in.

Any of the magazines mentioned would be a good starting place, like most things try them all until you find one that suits.

I´m not loyal to any of the magazines. I´ll buy what ever comes my way, as long as I can find material about boat kits.
Having said that, I have found the FSM magazines to be very versatile and it covers most subjects about modeling.

Military illustrated modeller would be my choice for a lot of reasons. They have no affiliation to manufactures, one month is afv the other is air. They do proper detailed builds showing each stage by international builders. Good reviews with no frills and are not filled with adverts instead filled with pictures.

I like a magazine that´s bias to the modelers interests and not the adverts.

When it comes to paper magazines Deron, subscribing locally to the best that you can get is usually the better idea, they can be really expensive at times for the overseas subscriptions.
I subscribe to FSM, Airfix's, MMI, and Tamiya. Out of them all FSM is the best simply because it's made in NA and thus cheaper. They all provide the same material in one way or another, but at huge expense.

However, the online subscriptions are much cheaper, even for the internationals. I find online ones annoying to use as I can't hold them in my hands and find what I need easily. Being able to spread something out in front of me while i work is much easier for me. But that how I like things.

Finescale magazine is so like your tv. Filled with adverts. 50% of that mag is selling stuff to you and the builds are so small these days. Not the magazine it once was sadly.

Totally agree with you in relation to having the paper version to read at the table or reference. Hmm how the hell can you not go to loo without a modelling mag anyway.

I myself subscribe to Military Modeler in Review MMiR and Scale Model Addict SMA magazines. Everyone once in a while I will pick up a Fine Scale Modeler if it has something in it that catches my eye. THe two that I subscribe too are not as heavy in advertisements, have long running how-tos and the photos are many and nicely done.

I read AMW and I will continue to read it. Great magazine can't fault it; they do a nice variety of subjects.

Probably does it for alot of us haha. There the kind that dont break the bank and you get to return it for another when the jobs finished hahahahaha.
