I wanted to make a start on my 109 stash, as I have more 109s in the stash than anything else by far.

I have recently posted an inbox review of thus kit on my YouTube channelhttp://www.youtube.com/user/UKscalemodeller

But here is the box art The first task is to make a copy of the I/P panel WHY?!? you ask, well........I originally planned on using the two G-10 kits I had to make my 109Z for the WW II GB but and so as I knew I would only need one I/P panel I stole one for my beriev build. BUT I had to use 2 109Fs instead. I was now 1 I/P short, as I have etch for one I thought I'd make a blank panel and put this one in the kit I took the beriev one from. Well it made sense to me!!!

Then onto the etch, the first thing I did was mask up the back of the etch fret to try and avoid the cut pieces from feeding the carpet monster. Next, onto a hard surface to start cutting out some brass.

Cool, I look forward to the completed build. Revell's BF-109 G-10 in the 1:48 scale was the first model kit I built back in July. Awesome plane with a lot of history!

That photo etch looks very good. Masking the back is a great idea I may now steal.

I got the cockpit finished and buttoned up. There is a horrible gap above the I/p panel but ai'mhoping the canopy will mask that over.

humm the body looks like it's a former matchbox I maybe wrong but what the heck can't wait to see this done

Revell claim this as one of their own
and there is no 'Made in England' stamp on the tool.

Hopefully It will turn out looking something like a G-10, here's hoping

Question: Is that a generic PE-fret for any 1/72 G-10 or is it designed especially with the Revell kit in mind??

It says recommended for the revel kit on the eduard website

Looking great mate i think you will sort that gap out no worries. will be watching how you go as i love the Me 109 too.

Well the wings are on.

I must say it is a nice snug fit. I had to bend the wing out to fit the fuz in and when it snapped back it fit really well. there is a small gap at the front of one of the wing roots but the fit overall is great
I'm liking the kit overall.

though as I have used the etch set I decided to open the canopy. but the armour plate that is part of the canopy is molded into the fuselage
this is removed

A little more progress.

The horizontal stabilisers, rudder, tail wheel, wheel well and cowling blisters added.
With the small fairings behind the spinner, the blisters over the cowling mounted MG's and the blisters on the wings for the bigger wheels you can see why it was called Die Beule (The bulge)

I will replace the wingtip lights as I did on my last 109 The drop tank is done (there is PE to add) and the canopy masked. It is interesting to note that the antenna mast is integral to the canopy. On previous 109 models A-F and early Gs this was fine as the canopy was the square framed three piece affair, with the Erla Hood (sometimes referred to as the Galland hood) the entire rear section of the canopy hinges, taking the antenna with it. Does this mean there may have been a little bit of slack in the wire between the antenna and the tail?

There is a certain amount of satisfaction with having all the little bits ready on sticks I feel.

If I remember correctly, somebody in my club once told me there is supposed to be a little bit of a slack on the antenna wire on a Bf 109.. but none on a Fw 190!

Or was it the other way round??

Either way, those little tasty bits on the cocktail sticks looks truly scrumptious!

Slack on a 109 with the erla canopy would make sense as it hinged with the canopy but I feel that investigating this would take me into rivet counter territory!

You better not slack, I'd like to see this little gem finished..

Well work may slow a little next month as I'll be doing Niges North Africa build but I got the wing tip lights done tonight.

So...RLM76 on the undersides (itis a 76/81/82 late war pattern)
and a little on the sides

And then for the RLM81 half of the camo
Please, please, PLEASE, be honest, does the mottling effect look OK? I'm really not sure, maybe it is a little too grainy, so decided to leave it for a day or so before I either finish it with the green or compound the mistake further.

I'm not really any sort of an expert on any WWII aircraft Ian, but that looks fairly close to the box art bud.
The colours and the patterns all seem to be right. I'd say that you nailed it pretty close dude.
It will most likely either fade or darken depending on what weathering you decide to do.
I think that it looks pretty cool.
Nice weathering on your thumb too. Really brought out the details.

I am actually really proud of the way it works, it is exactly how I wanted it, the way it fades slightly towards the edge is spot on I feel, anyway enough about my nail!

I have taken advice from Alex about angles of spraying for less even looking spots. Hopefully the green will look a little better.

it is a little grainy and not how I pictured it in my head but for my first attempt at this sort of scheme I'll accept it.

Hopefully a wash will filter it a little.

It is now out of the cave and on the shelf in the dining room for the rest of the work.

All gear parts ready And on,as well asthe underwing antenna And some chipping, my first ever attempt. I am not sure how heavy to make this as this is a late war aircraft but I don't want to overdo it.

Thanks Coen, I think with a better airbrush (I have a cheap chinese Veda knock off that cost £10) I would get a less grainy finish.

By grainy are you talking about the what that the mottling looks? Because it looks fine to me.

More the way it looks, it seems hard to get a defined line and it looks really misty around the edges no matter whst I do.

The texture of the paint id entirely my fault for laying it down too thick all at once.

after couple of gloss coats it was decal time.

I didn't pay too much attention to the decals before hand.

It is now evident that although they are nice and thin, without being brittle, they are out of register, which is a shame.
I have another of this kit to build but am planning on getting some after market Croatian decals for it so I do not have to use the kits supplied ones.

all in all though I am very pleased with the overall look.

the next step will be another gloss coat (Humbrol Clear) to seal in the decals and then a panel line wash and some weathering.

Just a quick question though... what do you mean by out of register??
Are they no good? have they become close to being unusable?

Always wondered what builders mean by that saying, and just thought it meant brittle, yellowed and hard to get off the backing easily.....

From what I understand it means that the layers of printing are not quite in the correct place.

some of the balkenkreuz have a white edge along one side but not the other. It seems to be most noticeable on the first aid kit decal (on the other side of the model) that I have exaggerated here. the cross should be in the box but it is printed out of place.
that's my understanding anyway and what I mean by out of register. It can be especially noticeable on roundels.

Ahh..... Gotcha!! I'm such a moron. .... Of course, makes sense now. I have seen roundels miss printed like you say but didn't make the link to the saying....
