MFH 1/20 Ferrari 312T4

My first WIP on this forum. This is a Model Factory Hiro 1/20th scale Ferrari 312T4, it's a hybrid kit so the body is plastic and the rest of the parts are white metal, photo etch, turned aluminum etc. The quality of the kit is really good as you would expect from MFH. I will build Jody Schechter’s car from the Belgium GP 1979. I started with dry fitting all the parts and drilling holes for the locating pins. The next step was to start painting and polishing, the monocoque is just polished with the front suspension painted in Tamiya X18. When the front bulkhead, pedal box and front suspension was on I could add the front uprights and brakes which were painted in various Alclads, as was the radiators. I have started to add some washes to bring out some of the details, still need to do some more. Next up is to add brake lines, wires, cables and finish the cockpit with the dials, seat, steering and harness then I can move on to the engine and gearbox.

Wow that looks an awesome kit, how much are they to buy ?

Thanks. The normal price for a MFH kit is around 27000-30000 yen, this being a hybrid kit (all the resin parts are replaced with normal plastic) the price is around 15000 yen. The only thing is that MFH has stopped making 1/24 and 1/20 scale Ferrari kits so you can't buy this anymore. They are a bit on the pricey side but you get everything you'll need to build a show stopper.

So about £90 for the all out kit, that's not too bad, cheers

So small update, the cockpit is almost done. I have added the front roll hoop, instrument panel, steering wheel and seat. The roll hoop where painted in Alclad polished aluminum, the rest of the parts in various glossiness of black and flat racing white for the seat. The brake lines and hoses from the brake fluid reservoirs where added using fine wire and solder. I also added the throttle cable using parts from Top Studios flat bottom support set, basically photo etched rod ends and such. What’s left now is to add the switch panel on the roll hoop, make the shoulder straps for the harness and do the last bit of wiring.

What will be seen of the brake master cylinders and the detailing once the model is done.

Thanks!

The build is moving along quite well. Most of the engine is done, just missing an oil line, the intake trumpets and battery cables. The engine was painted in Tamiya X-31 titanium gold and given a wash using MIG oil and grease stain mix. Next up is the gearbox and rear suspension, I'm hoping to have it done before the end of the month.

I'm starting to see the end of this model, the gearbox and rear suspension has been attatched to the engine. Also added the seat belts and some detail wires. Only have the exhaust, wheels and body left, the exhaust seems to be the only thing that might be a problem. The fit is not perfect and it's a bit hard to get all four to line up correct.

It's almost done, only things missing are to put on the wheels, mirrors, wings and screen. I also need to adjust one of the exhaust that is in a bit odd angle. The top of the bodywork won’t sit flush with the lower part, not sure where it's failing but there is a small gap. But I think I'll leave it as it will be displayed with the body off anyway.

Old thread, but unbelievable modelling
I did Tamiya F1 cars as a kid/young teen after following and cheering on Canadian Gilles Villeneuve so this is right up my alley
You did this car really proud, may have to burn my hobby equipment after seeing a real pro's work
WOW, very impressed.

Yes. Very very detailed work! I just recently purchased the Tamiya 312 T4 1:12 and looking at starting work on it next week. This is certainly inspirational!

Thankyou. Brett

Hi Jon,

Just found your posting during searching for info regarding the MFH 312t4, and it looks really good!

3 weeks ago I picked mine up during my visit at BestbalsaKits, and it's the Monaco version.

I'm gonna check your posting again and again, i still have a lot to learn.
