Hey guys I'm just curious as to which paint brands people prefer. I am talking about general painting not metallic paints like Alclad etc. If I missed something let me know and I will ad it to the list.

Vallejo and Tamiya.

Also use Mr Color and Citadel.

Yeah you need more options to allow me to vote lol.

Xtracrylix , mr hobby, akah and Vallejo model colour are the best IMO.

Well, Xtracrylix is on the list is Mr. Hobby the enamel version of Hobby Color or Gunze Sangyo? I also have Vallejo on there as well.

Mr hobby aqueous is acrylic.

54% for Vallejo, that's telling.

Tried a couple others but Vallejo offers such a breadth of colours its great. My only prob is there is only one shop in the city closest to me that has it so its a bit of a road trip whenever I need to get some.

Vallejo for detail/figure painting and Tamiya for everything else.
Sometimes I brush paint with Tamiya but only on small things.

My fav is Vallejo Model Air but you are missing my other 2 fav's
Tamiya Enamels, which I admit are gathering dust since I got the VMA and the Badger Minitaire paints.

I agree I would have thought Tamiya would have been higher.

Since coming back to the hobby I have been using Vallejo and Tamiya. I will be getting some Life Color soon, and some of the Mr Metal Color from Gunze too.

I use several brands.

Think the usage order is something like this.

1. Tamiya
2. Model master acryl
3. Vallejo air
4. LifeColor
5. Revell

My LHS have Tamiya, Model master and GW paint which I don't use because of price and confusing names
I have started to persuade getting LifeColor aswell, I would buy the entire range if it were locally availible!

I use several brands also...

I'll do mine in percentage of my total paint usage...

Mr Hobby Aqueous 60%
Tamiya 30%
VMA 10%

And Alclads when ever I can

Same with me, so far I did not try any other, but to be completely honest I am now experimenting (does this word even exist in this form?) as I am building my 2nd and 3rd model. The first I did was the experimental one.

You forgot Italeri acrylics

Model Master and Humbrol enamels. Applied with animal hair attached to a stick.

I'm surprised that the Model Master Acryl is not very popular. I started using that first, then I went to Tamiya paints. Now I have started to venture into Vallejo paints. They all have different coverages.

There not as readily available in europe, so thats probably why

Model master is a good paint though, sprays like tamiya and most of the time it doesn't even need thinning when airbrushing with it. It also is brushable to a certain degree, problem is their insanely crappy containers, very hard to get off the lid.

Hahaha oh yeah that is my biggest complaint those pesky lids. I have a bottle of gold paint and I have all but given up on it.

I voted for Humbrol before I realised that it was Humbrol enamels. I never use enamels. I always use Humbrol Acrylics but that's not on the list.

a lot of those choices I don't have in Canada... or at least in my Nick of the woods ! LOL

so I pick those that I can buy and have been using for the last 20 years. after I re started the Hobby...

Nice to see the 2 types of paint i mainly use are also the most popular with everyone else.
I do keep meaning to try Mr Hobby though

It's mostly vallejo for me can't have enough of those...

Some AK for those "special" paints.

Got Tamiya from when I started the hobby, now I use them only for airbrushing my dio's.. Do not want to spoil good Vallejo paint on my dio's

I know the feeling!! Since I primarily use the Model Master line, I keep a pair of pliers handy to open the jars.!

Tamiya alclad and hiroboy paints I have been building model cars. Also just brought tamiya 1/32 corsair after seeing Paul's build on you tube have brought mr hobby paints for this model but haven't used them yet. Whens the next update for this Paul looking good so far


On the bench tamiya mazda 787b

I use Tamiya acrylics, brushed and sprayed. I also use GSI/Creos Mr. Color and GaiaNotes synthetic lacquers and also Tamiya enamels. Each have different characteristics, so each has a place at the workbench.
