Global Scale Modeller

It's been a few weeks sense my last post. The holidays really got in the way of modeling. I was then able to move my modeling tools from the dining room to an extra bedroom. Moving and setting up a desk to work from has been a lot of work, but it will be worth it when I get finished. The next big project for my bench will be building a spray booth so I can paint indoors and not having to work around the weather. Now I can get back to modeling. I watched a number of videos on Youtube where modeler were doing Star Trek starship models and lighting them. I thought I would like to try this, so i did a little research and decided to start small. I chose a Klingon Bird of Prey that I've had in my kit stash for a few years. I am waiting on LEDs to come in. Over the next few days I will be drilling out the windows and navigation lights. I am eager to start the final painting. I think that my skills as an armor modeler will allow me to use a lot of different techniques to give this model an interesting finish.

I'll be looking forward to seeing this build. I have been wanting to light some kits for quite awhile and I'm glad to see I'm not the only Kentucky boy on ISM. Good luck on the project.

The weatherman finally got a prediction right, we got about six inches of snow. Its bad for traveling, but good for modeling. I got a lot done today. The holes for the windows and navigation light were drilled and I got all of the interior hull parts light blocked with a black primer and a coat of white for light reflection. The painting was tough I had to go outside to my storage building paint the pieces and bring them back inside the house to dry. Needless to say, my wife was not happy with the smell. Tomorrow may be a good day to work on that spray booth.

The mailman finally brought the LEDs I had ordered. So I started by adding fiber optics for the navigation lights and getting my plan together for wiring. My next step is to get the hull painted with my base coat, however this may take a couple of days. I am still painting outside and weather is not cooperating. It was below 0 this morning, and more snow on the way.

I was able to do some painting today. I put a base coat on the upper and lower hull with Vallejo Game Colors, Goblin Green. I also used Testors Jet Exhaust for the wing hinges.
