Skill Level 2 .. on a scale from 1 to 5... really ??? A bare metal airplane ?? Skill 2??? PLEASE!!! I think I have to chat with the Monogram guys !!

So to prove that I'm not hustling u guys or doing a con (well actually I'm doing a con ... but a CONvair). Here is a picture of the box, the sprues still in the plastic bag and my computer showing my initial post !!

I will try to include some tips or techniques in every post...

 Tip for the novice modeller : When going to a hobby shop buy the stuff u need not the stuff u want !!!
 Tip for the expert modeller : When going to a hobby shop buy the stuff u want you will probably need it!!!

Looking forward to seeing this one.

What size does the kit come out at? Looks to be massive.

So... lets get the technical part out of the way...

The B-58 Hustler

The B-58 was a Supersonic Heavy Bomber, made by Convair. Equipped with 4 engines General Electric J79-GE-5A turbojet that could take it to Mach 2.1 ( around 2.229 km/h) with a range of 13.219 km. The plane had length of 19.5 meters and a wingspan of 17.3 meters with a crew of 3 (Pilot; observer (navigator, radar operator, bombardier); defense system operator (DSO; electronic countermeasures operator and pilot assistant).

Image

This aircraft was technological wonder , one interesting fact is the ejection seat. Due to the speed and altitude a special ejection seat was fitted, it had an Armour that would enclose and become a "shell" .

About ejecting the B-58

The 81015

The beautiful B-58 Tail number 81015

I decided to build the "Ginger" (81015) a record breaking airplane that first flew in 03/19/1959 and unfortunatly "died" in 08/09/1977.
Flew a low level (550 feet) mission from Forth Worth to Edwards AFB at average speed of 610 knots on 9/18/59
Made first B-58 sustained long range Mach 2 flight on 10/15/59 during a 70 minute flight from Seattle, WA to Dallas, TX
Seriously damaged at Edwards AFB on 4/13/60 when right main tires failed during takeoff
Eventually modernized/upgraded to operational aircraft for SAC accepted by AF on 10/23/62.

The Model

Monogram - Nr. 85-5713
Release in 1985, in this case its a 2000 re-box In grey plastic with raised panel lines. (I think that in the first release the plastic was silver)

 Tip : Always do your research !! Its really important
 Tip : Scan your model instructions , you never know ... it could help u later or help a fellow modeller (some brands have their instructions online)
 Tip : This particular model has its pieces "very near" the sprue , so cutting them might be a challenge.
 Tip : When working with a model that is going to be painted in aluminum (or any metallic color) be extra careful with the construction! All your errors will be noticed. Try to make the "cleanest" build possible!

Now that the technical stuff is out of the way.... time for the fun to begin!!

So ... I told u guys that I was only getting started with miss B-58 on the 4 of February ... but you try having a Sexy "Miss B-58" in your bench , looking at you... begging to be touched and assembled !! So I couldn't resist.... I had to start...

After going throw the instruction sheet I selected the best way to start her....
I got in the shower... took a long bath... shave and perfume myself... put some nice clothes and went to the man cave....
And there she was ... waiting... in the spotlight.... in the mood to be assembled... but something was missing... what could it be???
I know... went to youtube and find a very romantic "Barry White" playlist... and then she smiled at me !!! :D

She's starting to show her age ... the plastic might be recent but its an old tooling! So had to be extra gentle!!

Start assembly of the Cockpit and Ejection seat
Image

Now... have u ever seen such a sexy and huge drop tank?? And I think Miss B-58 is a little kinky... she likes clamps so much ... I think she's into S&M !
Image

And her Legs???? Beautiful .... she is really lady... her legs are bared metallic ... not like those new bombers that always use those white stockings !!
ImageImage
Image

 Tip : Always model in good mood !! Don't go anxious or nervous to the bench ... the model will know !!!
 Tip : Dry fit.... always dry fit before gluing anything !!

That ejection pod looks like it came from a science fiction movie! It would make a great kit on it's own.

Thanks for all the comments guys!!! :D Really happy you are enjoying the "Miss getting build" :D

 snappercity : Yes...I'm going alclad 2 on this one !!!

I've been quiet has a mouse and feeling really guilty... the thing is... I have to be truthful :

For days that I didn't know where I placed the decals... but today... ohhh!! Today I found them... really happy !!

Image

so... a tip

 Tip : Don't leave your decals on the model box since they deteriorate easily , place them in a dossier or a safe place (no moister environment) ... but don't forget they are there :D

Cool subject you choose Pedro. I like very much the cold war bombers and I see your B-58 looks very promising.
Keep up good work. I'm looking forward to see the next stages of the build especially the metallic finishes on the plane.
Cheers

Well the work on the beautiful lady has started ... but she deserves to be well treated ... you dont need to buy flowers or chocolates to read this post .. but... you should sit comfortably in your couch and dim the lights... ohhh!!! Play the youtube video... she realy enjoys that music!!

 Tip : When airbrushing alclaad 2 paints always use mask... or you will get a iron flavor on the mouth and you will be taking metallic buggers from your nose for hours!!!

Ive been lazy as... a... koala !!!
The miss B-58 is all over the living room table looking at me every day... but... I'm so lazy!!!

Well have to stop lingering and do some work... so decided to test out the alclad 2 and what better then the fuel tank for some tests ??
(Miss B-58 confessed that the fuel tank is a bit ... phallic !!! hiihihiihih :D )

I primed with vallejo black primer

Image

And a coat of alclad 2 white aluminum

Image

Let it dry and then have to do some details :D

I just found out that the miss has a defect on the nose !!!

Image
Image

at first I thought my daughter had tried to byte the nose... but it cant be... she doesn't have those "vampire" teeth !!!

So ... its time for me to get my putty, sander and the scalpel and become the true "plastic surgeon" !!! :bash:

"Ohhhh miss b-58 you are becoming each day less attractive ... lets just hope you dont become Frankenstein!!!" :D :D
