Esci SdKfz 10/4 + 20 mm AA self-propelled gun 1:35 scale

Post by apraedel »

Next project - already started ...
I remember I saw that kit in one of the Verlinden books and always wanted to build it by myself.
Very poor quality, cleaning and filling will be required, but I still like it. Again a young boys dream, I guess.
For the little diorama I am thinking of a combination of some gentlemen from both Tamiyas
"German flak crew" and "German Soldiers at Field Briefing", these will most likely be used.
Enjoy !

Also done the Flak canon now. Some tiny parts are still missing, so the primer keeps waiting ...

S here we are:
I painted the model with Vallejo black primer followed by Vallejo black grey. To achieve a nice weathered winter camouflage effect I then applied some Humbrol Maskol with a small sponge and added a slight coat of white. Then I peeled and rubbed the Maskol off again, using a stiff old brush and my very own tiny little fingers ...
It's my first usage of Maskol and my first "wintry" weathered vehicle at all, so what do you think ?

Wheels and tracks added, as well as some tarps made from microfibre cloth (the ones you usually get as a giveaway when you've just spent an enourmous amount of money for your new glasses ...).
The tracks actually were a nightmare, much too short and they tend to break obviously due to the kits age with that vinyl/rubber stuff being somehow "rotten" over the years.

Brilliant work, really like these small half-tracks. The winter paintwork looks ace.

With the figures it should be stunning :thumb2:

Only a minor update, with some more worn out weathering effects by fading the white color down with black oil paint.
Hope you still like it.

Drybrushed the figures highlights. But these guys will require some more efforts, they litarally take me ages to finish ...

Figures are looking great...very nice tonal variation. I think your wash over the white on the vehicle was spot-on as well...it took down the starkness of the white and looks much better IMO.

I've always loved the little 10 and your build is getting me anxious to do one as soon as I complete my 7...though I will probably go with one of Dragon's recent offerings 'cuz I don't have your courage to attack the challenges inherent to the older kits.

Cheers,

Build of the base in progress - made from Fimo Air Basic and artist "structured paste" - found that hint somewhere in forum, this stuff works out quite good.
And the figures - these guys now even start to get faces ...
