Considering This Airbrush

Post by Trainboy153 »

I have been looking for airbrushes under 50$ or so. I have found this one which seems nice, what do you guys think?

I've heard a lot of good things and bad things about cheap compressors. They seem to be either a hit-or-miss purchase.
The reviews for that setup look good for what you're looking at.
I've heard that siphon-feed airbrushes are a hassle to clean but I have seen people clean them out using these:

By airbrush do you mean a complete set-up or the gun itself?

If it's just the brush you are after...
How much is a Paasche H in Florida? It's a single action bottom feed brush but is well made and a solid performer - I'm a huge fan. Chinese brushes branded by Veda (search on Google for Veda 130 and Veda 180) can be excellent but can also be a bit hit and miss. neo for Iwata (made in China for iwata) won't be too far off your budget and as it carries the iwata brand will have, hopefully, been subject to quality control. Just suggestions! Good luck

If you order the Neo, buy it from Hobby Lobby. You can use the 40% off coupon.

This is what I got, it's a little more than 50 dollars but I can't complain.

I have since got me an additional airbrush, (Renegade Velocity) but still use the Master brush all the time. Parts and different gauge needles are available as well. I mostly use the Badger brush now but still use the compressor and have had no issues with it, other than it doesn't have a tank on it. Also I would definitely go with a gravity feed airbrush.

Looking at the set up your thinking about I can see a few drawbacks. Firstly the airbrush is a siphon feed which isn't ideal for modelling as it needs a lot of paint to use. At best it is only really useful for priming or varnishing where you might be doing a large spray job. Secondly the compressor is a direct air feed rather than tank fed. This means the compressor will be on constantly and will get hot if you are doing a lot of spraying in one go, plus your loved ones may find it a bit annoying! You can also get a slightly uneven air feed, how bad will depend on the compressor.

Over here in the UK this compressor is very popular http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Complete-Airb ... 1e63227a2a it also comes with a top feed airbrush and a siphon feed. In the US something like this seems to be similar http://www.ebay.com/itm/Master-DUAL-ACT ... 2c7a38e861 although it is a little more expensive than you were hoping for. Hope this helps.

I agree with Craven, if you can get the model with the tank, do it. A model with a tank is going to be my next modeling buy! But if money is an issue go for what I posted. Again, I have had no problems with it. However like Craven said it does run continuous and gets hot enough to burn you, so be careful. Never leave it running when not actually spraying anything either.

It seems good, but how large and loud is it, since I only have about 4 square feet available and I live in an apartment.

I sure wish I had seen this thread earlier. Here's what I would have suggested; step 1: print 40% off coupon from HobbyLobby.com
step 2: Buy Iwata Neo for $40 with coupon. step. 3: print another coupon a month later step 4: Go back to Hobby Lobby and buy the Iwata Neo compressor for $40...done! and it wouldn't have been a no name brand! Oh, well I hope everything works out for you.

I've been airbrushing walls and paitings for 10 years now and i recomend to save some more money and buy something decent. i use harder and steenbeck. just because you can swop the nedel and nozzle in different thickness. membrame compressors are loud and anoying in the long run. so same here. save up some cash and buy a compressor based on a fridgemoter. sounds and is as loud as a fridge
