This is the old tool and it does not impress!
But I suppose the kit is of its time and more importantly it was bought for me by JP23 to mark an occasion.

So! On with it!

I wanted a little more detail in the cockpit especially as I will not be adding pilots. I generally don't anyway but in this case the pilots are actually bigger than the cockpit they are meant to be sat in!

Styrene rod is used to recreate the framing inside
I decide not to remove the ledges molded into the cockpit designed as a 'seat' and instead use it to place my own seats on. The seats are made from a muller corner yoghurt pot* as are the instrument panels. The control column are more rod.
It is a rivet counting trolls wet dreqm of inaccuracies but its good enough for me, that will do for now.

¿ other yoghurt brands are available.

Taking on one of these old Airfix kits every now and then is good for the soul! You will make it shine, I am sure.

Insides painted up with vallejo model colour 967 Olive green and then washed with the same shade darkened and thinned
The last addition is belts made from tape.
And now sealed up ready for the rest of the construction
Hoping to be ready to prime soon

What do you make of that primer Ian seen it but never picked on up it looks good in the photos.

Yes, it seems to have gone down OK
But I cannot testify as to its durability yet.

The kit comes with only the one option of scheme, a yellow trainer. I want to do a particular aircraft however, this one.
So I went and picked up some vallejo air aluminium from their metallics range. It covered very nicely but after 48hrs it was still tacky. Strangley also for an airbrush paint it covers well with a brush.
So on with the scheme, trainer yellow stripes

Now to mask up for the national insignia on the tail
Looks a mess
But I'm pleased with the end result

Well Nige, the undercoat seems fine but do NOT use the gloss lacquer.

Decal time, and a bit of a 'mare.

The decals with the kit were old, thin and brittle, several broke appart. The letters I used (thanks Alextheblue) don't have an 'R' so I had to make them from 'K' and an 'S'
It took a while to cut the indevidual lettering out.
And the end result is passable
The roundels didn't want to conform to the wing ribbing and the carrier film on the lettering is quite thick. I have liberally brushed them with micro sol and hoping they will look better in the morning. Then to the fun of rigging!

Two of them just fell off. Now hand painted them. Was about this far [ ] from smashing the thing into the wall with putting the top wing on.

It helps, when fitting the top wing of a biplane that the struts are a) straight b) have attachment points that will actually fit into the holes and c) created with an attachment point at an angle if the strut is meant to be at said angle.

Nightmare!

At least it is on now, and LOTS of CA means it will not be coming off!

Doing a great job on this mate its fighting you the whole way but i think you beating it into submission.
