Help with washes!

Hello, I have been using washes one the interior doors of my b-17 (not what you expected, huh?) I have mad a ratio of about 2:1 ratio of water to paint, applied, waited to dry and then used a wet cloth to take the wash off, but it wont come off, even with soapy water from the faucet. I have managed to completely ruin my 262's underside with this. I tryed wiping it while wet but it takes all the paint off, any help?

Probably a silly question but you are talking about an Acrylic wash right?

Yeah you have just applied thinned paint so it won't come off. when using paint for a wash it needs to be ultra thin (like 80% thinner and 20% paint) and i prefer airbrushing it so it settles in recesses

Also might be worth noting to let your base coat dry fully before using a very thinned down wash, as the thinner has a tendency to agitate the paint underneath if your not careful....learned that the hard way .....

And if your wanting to remove most of the wash you need to apply a gloss coat before hand.

Like Lee said, make sure your surface is smooth with a clear coat varnish. Otherwise the wash will have problems spreading out.

Also, did you say water? I've never used H2O but I'm no expert. I'd use turpentine (in a well ventilated room) and paints if I didn't have the premixed washes. I also pin wash so I'm not quite sure if that has any jurisdiction.

How long should I leave it to set before I wipe it?
