This is gonna be the first ever GB for me to enter, Im a huge fan of WW2 Bombers so no way was I gonna pass.

Here is the box art an sprue shots....my Daughter always jumps infront of the camara











Part 1
Just a small first update

I started of with the bomb bay, For the interior green I used a max of Tamiyas XF-26 Deep Green and XF-3 Yellow, after spraying the parts I drybrushed them and gave them a coat of Klear before applying some Humbrol Black Enamel Wash which gave me my first problem, the was had separated in the bottle and even after a good shake is just seemed to turn to gunk, I got away with just mixing a small bit with enamel thinners but il have to look into it.







Thats all for now, I just have to spray the bombs and the bring the bay togethere

No its moulded onto the kit part, its great seen little details like that on kits it shows the company put a lot of care into there work

Maybe revells moulds where cleaned and my kit is newer ........its the luck of the Irish ( i wish )

What are you crying about? At least you all have interiors! I didn't even get a back wall!

Oh, the fire extinguisher is molded on mine, just didn't see. Sorry to hear about that back wall though

Part 2
For some reason every time I sit at the bench to do a bit on this build something comes up and I get dragged away so ive just been getting a small bit done at each sitting.

First up I assembeled the bomb bay




For the inside of the fuselage the instructions calls for it to be painted either completely in intrerior green or else green from the nose to the radio operators section just behind the bomb bay and the rest in aluminium so I want with the later, after painting I sealed it with a coat of klear and apployed Humbrol black enamel wash. I was then finished with Tamiya flat clear


Next up was the cockpit and bomb aimer and navagators section. After spraying I drybrushed with Revell 57 Grey and Citadel IronBreaker silver before sealing with klear and applying the decals.For the wooden tabel top I brush painted it first with Revell Sandy Yellow 16 then with Tamiya XF-10 Brown. I then cracked out the Humbrol wash which to my dismay had completly turned to gunk, so thats gone in the bin.
I made my own enamel was with Humbrol thinners and humbrol black enamel paint, I made it very thin so as just to add a slight effect then again I gave it a coat of Tamiya flat clear









Thats where im at now, im hoping that I get a lot done with it tomorrow....the wife is going shopping, getting here hair done and then bringing our daughter to her Irish dancing class so my phone is been turned off and im getting stuck in to serious modelling

Part 3

Ok I think im taking way to much time working on the interior when it will hardly be seen but even though its taking an age to do I must say im really enjoying it now.
Since my last post iv got to work on the radio operators station and the rest of the rear.
After painting and drybrushing the radio instrements I gave them a wash with some thinned grey humbrol enamel ( just to see what I looks like ) Its a bit over done but it looks ok, the rest of the panels recieved a black wash





Next up was the guns, The bullet chain feeds where to be painted brass but I have none so I used Tamiya XF-6 Copper, If you like shinny things you might like it but I think there too "in your face" but it will have to do, the guns where painted with Tamiya XF-10 Gun Metal


Last was the up is the rear gunner and the ball gunners positions
The rear went togetter with no trouble



The ball was fine too but the two halfs didnt match up very well so I had to crack out the Perfect Plastic Putty and the give it a good sand and polish, for the fixture that holds the ball the colour call out is for Revell 365 Patina green but once again I dont have it so I went with Revell 48 Sea Green then drybushed and gave it a black wash








So thats me for now, im gonna try to get the fuselage buttoned up tomorrow, I just need to get the other gun positions sorted.

Next up, I glued in the ball turret mount and dry fitted the top turret



Now she is all buttoned up



The two halfs didnt go togethere that well, the under side aint to bad but iv had to use a lot of filler in places






Last for now, I decided to do it with the flaps down so some minor surgery is needed



Thats where im at for now, I was just looking at the instructions for the wings and they look bloody confusing ...typical revell, so they can wait till tomorrow

Thanks Lego, its the macro setting on the camera, its a Fugi finepix S4300 its good but the auto focus acts up sometimes

Im gonna take a break from this build for a week or two so just gonna post the pics of where im at now.

I put the wings togethere the on sunday while watching Liverpool playing Man Utd off the field I started with putting in the inside parts of the landing flaps and for some stupid reason revell put injector pins all along the sides that are on show



Then I moved onto the inside of the wheel wells





This is what happens while when you concentrate more on the footy than what youre doing Now fire wall


So i had to pop the wing open a bit and try get the piece into place


Next up the engines, I spreyed them with Revells Aqua silver and aluminium then for the exaust I used a mix of Tamiya Hull red and Brass, then I gave them a pin wash of black





Here she is with the wings dry fitted


So thats where im at for now, im gonna work on my fouga magister thats been on hold now just so I can try out doing a metal finish as iv never done it before.

Nice to see you made such an effort on the interior, even though you can not see it anymore.
You'll know it's there.

Finally got back to this yesterday after taking time out for other builds.

I primed it a few weeks back with Revell 57 grey so I just gave it a light sanding and got on with pre-shading and my God this bird had a lot of panels it took me over and hour to do



Im doing this as Little Miss Mischiff because I think its one of the best looking colour schemes the B17 had so with the pre-shading done I started with the grey on the under-side which I used Tamiya Xf-19, then for the Olive Drab around the center fusalage I used Tamiya XF-62, the red on the tail is Tamiya XF-7 and the then Olive on the wing and around the engine nacelles is Revell Nato Olive.
The whole process took a lot of time with masking, it was a bloody nightmare

So last up was the silver, I had planed on using Humbrol Polished metal MetalCote but every shop in Dublin seams to be all out of the colour so I ended up using Revell Silver, although this is a good looking paint mine had all seperated in the pot ( i have it ages ) so after a good mix it seamed to have turned out ok but It kept clogging the airbrush so I had to really up the air pressure. In the end it turned out well but to add in some different shades I picked out spots with Tamiya X-11 chrome with im not happy with.





With the painting done I fitted the flaps



So thats where im at,iv giving it 2 coats of klear and cleaned up the landing gear so there ready for paint tomorrow. Im gonna let the klear cure over the weekend and the get stuck into the decaling on Monday which is gonna be a massive job, there is a lot to go on this bird.

Thanks guys, I'm gonna get stuck into decalling as soon I send my daughter to bed, she's on Easter holidays from school so I may not get a lot bench time over the next two week

Looking great so far. With my b-17 i'm going to paint the inside of the cowling, then the landing gear. After that it will be priming and preshading. I'm I've still got quite a bit to do though and I have exams second day back at school so I've had to be revising. Not leaving me much time left over for modelling . I'm building 'Nine-O-Nine' so it'll be nice to see the outcome of 'Little Miss Mischief'. Good luck with the decals

Iv finish the decals tonight and my god there was a lot of tiny ones on this model, its took me 3 night sessions to get them on but im happy with how they went, I had very little silvering which was sorted out with a blade and revell decal soft




I also installed the bomb bay doors






Im gonna work on the landing gear next, I have the wheels glued togethere and I have to say they look rubbish, I should of gone with a resin set ...ah well, il sort out the props to and try have it ready for weathering on sunday or monday.

Ok im nearly finished on this build so this is just a small update before the final reveal,

I got to work on the landing gear which I must say aint the strongest, id say some white metal replacements would be a good idea.
The tires first where sprayed with Tamiya Rubber black and the hubs where done with Cidatel ironbreaker silver


Next I dry brushed them with Cidatel dry longbeard gray, It was my first time using this range of paint and I highly recommend it.
Left wheel is dry brushed right aint


Next the gear fitted


Can I get some advice on this one, do I have the rear gear fitted wrong? It dont look right to me


I gave it a wash with some of my homemade wash, its kind of a light dark wash..if that makes sense


Now il skip a bit, after cleanning of the wash I sealled it with a coat of klear and then gave it a coat of Tamiya flat clear....NOT flat base and after weathering it a bit of came the masking tape and OMG the bloody dust was caked to the inside of the nose glass So i had to pop it of to clean it...and Iv just notice now when posting the next pic that the gun barrels aint painted on the front turret


It turned out ok





So thats me for now, I have the props painted so just have to decal them and fit them then just clean up a few bits and that will be this bird done and dusted. I might get it done after Match Of The Day...I have to watch Liverpool win and Man Utd getting stuffed AGAIN

OH CRAP Since I painted this bird I must have looked over it a 100 times and just now I notice that I never done the black on the leading edges of the wings,tailplanes and rear stablizer

So do I just leave it or crack out the airbrush and masking tape????

Looking really good mate. Tbh it looks fine without the black and it's just gonna take up more time and effort. If i'd forgot I know I wouldn't bother. Btw u did get the rear wheel wrong. It should be the other way round. Just looked at the instructions. As the whole gear is one piece just pull iit out and glue it in the other way.

Thanks mate, The rear gear in the kit doesnt look anything like it does on the instructions so it didnt fit right no-mather what way I tried, But after reading what you said I took it apart and disaster struck (my camara is dead so I didnt take pics but il explain) When fitting the gear because of the dodgy fit I used super glue so I was chipping away at it when I put a little to much presure on it and POP went the wheelwell into the fuselage so I had to get it out through the well hole which is like trying to put a golf ball through a key hole, so POP went the fuselage underside but without loosing the head I marched on and fixed the lot
So note to self "from now on stay clam"
It looks ok now but I have a seam line running under the fuselage which kinda peed me off because I put a lot of work sanding to have it as seam free as possible

Il take pictures of the repair later when the camera charges,

Well thats me finished, I didnt want to have it to heavly weathered so I just used a light wash then added in exaust streaks with thinned black paint and fuel streaks with Tamiya smoke, with the props I just added chipping with Cidatel dry necron compound applied with a ripped make-up sponge on the leading edges.
I really enjoyed the build and I would recommend the kit to anyone looking for a B17.

Well done indeed. That rear wheel well issue u had would have driven me crazy! The exhaust stains and general weathering is amazing hope my weathering looks as good as yours.
