Ok my GB Entry which I finally get to start tomorrow.

This tiger will have a tri-tone Camo pattern, highly faded and weathered, although these late tigers would not have seen as much action as earlier tiger 1's it's still getting beat up

This is the Ultimate build of this tank for me (hence why ive spent over £220 on it now) and although its a late king tiger and wouldn't have had zimmerit mine has, late tigers also had a hard edged Camo pattern, mine will be soft edged and most tigers had the turret mg/cupola ring removed for ease of access, mine is present here. I'm not a rivet counter so don't care it's not 100% accurate date wise, I'm basically using artistic licence to build my favourite tank. A late king tiger with zimmeritt and soft edged Camo work.

So the kit and extras all that I'm waiting for is the photo etch, ammo boxes and mg34 belt ammo

It will be a smashing build! Looking forward to it. I do like the Porsche turret better. But, hey, a tiger is a tiger. Meeeeooow

I've built one of the the precursors to this kit, I think that all that they've changed was the addition/substitution of the transport tracks. I found all of Dragon's Kings to be great, if not complicated, builds.
I'm excited to see what you'll do with it.

I wish that I could join the GB, but my Little Shop of Horrors is, as yet, unassembled.
I have a build log of a 1/25 Tiger I that I did several months ago. That's as close as I could come right now.
I'll have to catch the next one.

This should be fascinating! I love to watch a build with all the bells and whistles thrown in!

This is gonna be great to watch this build as I have this kit on my shelf along with a few other king tigers.

I guess I should wish you good luck too just so you don't feel left out This really is looking set to be a very nice build mate.

Looking forward to getting this going, just got too many nice kits ive bought recently and want to start them all now

This and the tamiya mustang are next in line after the f4

I have wanted to build this kit since it's most recent updated release so i shall watch with interest and fascination.

Sheesh Paul, I thought that I was bad for spending twice what I paid on a kit on aftermarket.
I have a King Tiger that I've been saving until my shop is finished that I can't get the box back together because of all the resin and photo etch that I've stuck in it.
One day I hope that it will turn into Kurt Knispel's King, but it is not this day.
I'm really interested in seeing yours with all the extra's just before painting.

Yeah friul , fiddly to put together but worth it

Just ordered a brass mg34 barrel, brass tow shackles and a photo etch mg34 ammo belt and box set.

Can't decide if I should add zimmeritt to this or not?

You don't how much I want to be this started, although I enjoy all modelling and recently have really enjoyed aircraft I'm an armour modeller at heart I think it's what I do best.

Want to get the F4 out the way before I start this and have got a couple hundred decals to crack on with first

Tracks are the one thing that puts me off AFV...!!!

Almost all of my armour have Fruil tracks. You get pretty good at it after awhile.
I can do a set of 94 per side 1/35 Tiger Is in about 2 and a half hours now.

There probably one of the easiest things to do on armour

Looks like alot of work but I'm sure the end result is so much better than the rubber band type.

This is going to be an epic build thread!

I used Friul tracks only one time for my Hungarian Toldi tank from Hobby Boss. The tracks included in the Hobby Boss kit were aweful so i had to replace them.
The finished tracks look superb, but they took me an aweful lot of work to assemble. I prefer decent kits in the kit right away, it is also more benefical However, Friul tracks always add a lot of detail to a model so it is never a bad idea to get them. Maybe you have a more efficient way to assemble them as i have, so this will be definately an interesting thing to see.

Can't wait to see those tracks being built, but I guess I'll have a long wait. Lol!

I doubt that mine is more efficient than yours, I've probably just done it so many times.
If I remember correctly, the tracks on a Hungarian Toldi are almost the same as a panzer III.
Those are small and very fiddly, they take longer to do than the larger German cats.
If you've never done the Tiger II Fruils before you may even find them clunky.
They're huge.
A full run is massively heavy.
I worry that one day my King Tigers and my Jagdtigers will just fall apart under the weight.

Holy moly! Just had a look at all the extras you've got for this build. There's enough to build a whole extra tank there! It's gonna be a beast!

Tell me about it jim, I'm at £150 in for all the extras now plus the £50 the kit cost me, so I hope I do this justice.

Finally started it this afternoon

So all the idler arms were tidied up and attached to the lower hull.





The instructions call for the road wheels next, I'll leave these of now,to make painting and weathering easier. Also with having so many aftermarket parts I've got several instructions sheets to relate too.

Next up the exhaust, the rear od the tank and the first piece of PE zimmeritt, which went on no problems at all. Superglued in place perfect.





Then the first real challange the rear fenders. The instructions called out for various hinges to be rolled on parts no bigger than 2-3mm wide and with a slither if wire inbetween allowed the fenders to move etc. I'm all up for realism but that's to much for me, so I used a bit of artistic licence and did it my own way. They don't move, but I think they look ok.

Using my mission models folding tool and taking about two hours I got both sides done.







Also found a suitable german tanker from royal models in Italy and a nice mg34 for the cupola. A lot of king tigers didn't have a turret mounted mg, but mine is going too



You get all three but I'll be using the left hand one

So nice to see you get started on this.

That figure is awesome! So is that MG kits all in themselves.

Now it is rolling The Zimmerit looks superb, used PE Zimmerit once and wasn´t too satisfied with the general look, it seems like they improved the look a lot in the last years.
You like PE don´t you? I hate those fiddly parts but they look superb when assembled with skill (which i don´t have). From time to time i try to train myself in the useage of PE parts, maybe i will get used to it at some point...? I´m glad however that my group build entry will feature only limited amounts of PE parts

Yes they work very well, being curved lets you gets right in the edge of the PE. I use them along with a scalpel blade to remove PE from the sprue.

I don't like PE that much I just want to make the most of this and I have no skill with PE

I think few people actually have "skill" with PE. I use it all the time and I despise it.
Unfortunately I can't argue with the results. The stuff really can make a difference.

This is just amazing already.

The PE is looking fantastic.

Done abit more tonight.

Got the hull mounted mg sorted, had to drill into the gun mount to get the barrel the right length, this was then superglued in place.

The rb productions barrel next to the kit one



And glued into position



Both front sections of zimmeritt on and headlight in place, I'll add some wiring to it tomorrow



On to the side zimmeritt, a side arch mount needing removing at the front, the PE zimmeritt was them glued in place. Is was a tad tall on this side, so I trimmed it flush with the tamiya PE scissors.





And on the other side it was to short length ways, so I used some squadron white and my lion roar zimmeritt tool to fill the gap, it should look ok once painted.

Great start buddy

Cracked on with the front fenders today and they were even more fiddly than the rears, they needed rolling to start with and were really tricky to glue. I just need,to add a little detail to where,they attach to the body.

I've done the right hand one as it should be and and added some damage to the left hand one, which I'll continue on down the side onto the first side skirt. As if the tank has hit something.

Also got the first side skirt on as,I wanted to see what it lined up like.
