1/35 HobbyBoss ZTZ 99A - Chinese tank

Post by DC87 »

I decided to take a short break from the Sopwith Snipe and build something that doesn't require as much intense concentration.

I had intended to show pics of each stage/ process but the build has been very quick and enjoyable and as such the time flew by and I forgot to take the pics.

The build is 90% done and only took 11 hours or so including clipping and sanding 160+ track links. Looks like I will beat my previous record for building a kit which was about 5 months :D

While the kit isn't the most detailed it is incredibly enjoyable and simple to build up with very good fit - only a tiny bit of filler has been used.

Highly recommended kit if you want a fun build of a lesser known modern MBT which seems to be available for under £15

As it is now

The build up shots I did take:

The tracks are not workable by themselves so I used this jig arrangement to apply some Mr Hobby Cement S which dried long enough for the tracks to be worked into shape.

More angles as it is now

Thanks Rodney, Paul and Paul :D

The tank is ready for priming tomorrow with the build complete aside from deciding on the antenna angles and stowage.

The build has been a real blast and the only faults were due to my own lack of intelligence as I placed the commanders hatch the wrong way round which took a bit of brute force to remove but thankfully remained intact and gluing the MG mount back to front, again came apart intact.

Image

Here is the commanders MG - this was made up of 13 parts, of which 1 remains on the floor somewhere.

I think the Chinese are making up for something with the length of this gun it is ridiculous - here is the Merkava for comparison. The turret size is smaller on the 99 because it is a 2 man turret.

Thanks Mike, Seb and Switcher.

The weather was too windy to spray the primer today - I have to do it with the shed door open, so I detailed up the smoke launchers :D .

Great to see a Chinese tank for once.. :D Not that I'm a fan of the Chinese in any way, not at all.. but it's always good to see something a bit different!

Great looking build so far.. :)

Progress is coming along nicely with the base coats and initial weathering applied and half the road wheels all painted up ready for mud and grime. Next the camo will be applied then some oil washes and streaks.

Clean and superbly built and base coated Dan mate...
...and of course as someone mentioned previously, it makes a change to see something other than the usual, Tiger, Panzer, Sherman, collection displayed on modelling forums...
Well done dude, the build is spot on..... :th: :th: :th:
Happy Modelling my friend... :thumb1:
