Scale Advice for Novice Airbrusher

Is it fair to say that for early or an inexperienced airbrush person, I should stick to the smaller scale like 1:72 or maybe as big as 1:48 to hone my skills? The reason I ask is because my eye is attracted to the coolness of building and painting the bigger scale like 1:35 and 1:24, but I get intimidated once they get built as to make them look awesome. I was reading in Fine Scale Modeler, they said that novice air brushers should stick to expendable cheap models but they didn't mention anything about scale.

I think sticking to cheap kits 1/72 is a good thing to the fact they don't cost much, but a good quality 1/48 kit doesn't have to break the bank and they are so much easeier to work on, bigger scale everytime for me, I wont be building a 1/72 anytime soon.

Smaller scales will tend to be cheaper, but IMO they take more work as the details are smaller. Once you've done a few 1/72, the bigger stuff will seem like a doddle!

Thanks, I think that's why I dig 1/35 miniatures as much as I do lately, for they are helping me hone my skills on a pretty small surface. I keep telling myself, people don't start out awesome like Hamilkar Barkas. Thanks for the encouragement.
