Global Scale Modeller

this is my first try on a airfield base. the one that everyone makes at one point. concrete slabs and a little grass at the site. I made it with just materials you can find around the house exept for the paint glue and static grass. the plane on the pictures is just for refference on size. it's 1/48 spitfire from italeri.
So what do you think? i'm happy with the results, just wondering where to improve myself.










it's not ready yet. i'm still working on a fence with barbwire that is made of wood squers and lace curtain.
the treetrunk is made with wire, water based modelingpast and fine sand. the vegitation on the tree is felt(thanks to my girlfriend for letting me surge to her hobbypile )topped with dyed sawdust. the base is mdf wood covered in woodglue and sprinkeld with sand. So just basic materials. from around the house.

this will be the fence butt need to paint it first.

i can make a suggestion for a possible second dio
you can make the concrete surface with a fine grid sand paper aswell
this gives a fine texture to the concrete surface ,this is done by afv modellers to create asfalt roads but should work for this kind of floor aswell
but i like what you did as it looks good

The curtains came from ikea. They were scraps i got from my neighbours. One tip before you cut it is to soak it in woodglue/water solution. Hang it to Dry it and it is stiff like plastic. Now you can cut it without tearing the squares.

Great job for first time.....u could also try adding some dead leaves around the base of ur tree and bits of taller grass here and there to break up the flatness of the grassy area.....luv the concrete area .....have fun!!!

If you got sand in your house, you probably need to clean the place...

Anyways... nice result for a fist dio. I hope my first ever attempt will turn out to be this good. I like the way you put the fence together as well. Might come in handy for me at some stage. Thanks for sharing those tips.

Looking great buddy.
Two things I would do to make it a little more realistic:
- To make the concrete slabs look like separate slabs, you can paint a few slabs a little bit darker / lighter. By doing this to maybe only 3 ore 4 slabs makes allready a lot off difference.
- I think the edges off the slabs are to neat. I would scratch some damages to the edges off the slabs. I mean make it look like some pieces broke off. Or maybe one cracked in the middle.

Great idea with the fence.

I don't know much about airfield tarmacs, but maybe you could vary up the oil stains a bit?
Like some darker ones to depict fresh oil or lighter ones to depict older stains that are nearly rubbed away.
