Academy 1/72 Me 262 (first ISM built)

Hello everybody

Here is my first built after being stuck in a modeling-rut for a year or so and my very first ever build here on the ISM forums.
Normally I just build armor, so a plane is a refreshing change for me. The subject is Academy's 1/72 Me 262.



In the shop I took a peek in the box and was happy with the level of detail I saw (the last time I built a plane is over 25 years ago).
After opening the box at home and inspecting the sprues I was less happy. I have no idea how to clean op some of these ejection pin marks without some surgery or scratchbuilding .
I guess I'm just going to ignore some of them, finishing the kit is the most important thing for me now.

I finished most of the cockpit, no extra detailing except for some work with green stuff on the back of the seat to hide an ejection mark.
Always a bit of a shock when you see your work blown up in digital photographs.





Time to clean some things up and dust off my airbrush, next thing is some primer. Yeah!

Made some progress today.
With the cockpit-tub in place and the wings dry fitted there was enough room between the tub and the fuselage too see right through the plane and the open wheel wells. That didn't look right to me so added two strips of plastic to reduce those gaps. To be honest I don't know much about this subject and perhaps those gaps should be there. After this the cockpit parts got primed (and I forgot to take pictures).

The cockpit itself received a coat of homebrewn RLM 66 made from Vallejo Model colors, and the inner parts of the lower fuselage were airbrushed with Vallejo Air aluminum.





My apologies, the only thing in focus is the tub

Details are painted now, next step is weathering



Getting to the painting stage so early in the build, sure is a nice thing when building a plane.

Another update today.

The front fuselage halves were glued together yesterday and it looks OK to me, no obvious gaps or anything like that. Next will be sanding and to check if there really are no gaps. The only thing that worries me a bit are those oval panellines in front of the cockpit. I hope I can keep them intact as I don't have a scribing template or something. We'll see.





Today I finished the cockpit. Those dials, gawd, I probably repainted them 5 or 6 times. After seeing the photo's I noticed that the paint on the seat got scratched, still need to touch that up.






The underside of the cockpit was weathered with oils, you can see it dryfitted here.




Next sanding, filling and scribing.

well, I lost some detail cleaning upo the seamlines

I attempted to to make my own scribing template. Pilot holes were drilled in a scrap of transparent plastic for two 2mm holes.



After that I carefully cut away the material in between

The oval is scribed in the fuselage,not perfect the best I can do now.
