GMC Truck. Lend-Lease Conversion II: Cabin Replacement!

Post by hansolo »

Hi Guys,

In my last GMC conversion I converted an open GMC into a more or less 'closed' one.
But it wasn't really closed. And that would be no good in Icy Russia! They'd freeze their butts off!

So I took the conversion to the next level!
I incorporated some new technologies to create the closed cabin for the truck.

The agency where I have my workplace, recently bought a 3D-Printer.
This is the one:

I am quite familiar with 3D software, so I built the cabin from scratch in Cinema 4D on my Mac.

I printed it on the 3D-Printer.

Drilled holes in it for the windows.

Took the old cabin apart.
Image

Glued the newly printed part to the hood with superglue, cause this is another type of plastic that doesn't dissolve with modelling glue.

Stuck the new construction back on the truck.

Painted and weathered it again.

Made windows, door handles and windscreen wipers.
And I had myself a closed GMC. :thumb1:

This concludes the 'final and definitive' GMC conversion. :)

That is freaking awesome Han!!! :th: :th:   : :

And talk about scratch building - you've just taken it to a whole new level! I've thought for a while that 3D printers would be great for replacing all those bits that the carpet monster munches up - but using them to make custom parts for conversions - you sir are a genius!! :cheers2:
