Hello guys!
Time for another build.
Wanted to do a Out Of the Box build this time, with a kit that would be a quick and easy build.
So This is what it's going to be.



The sprue shots,









The glass windows for the side is going to be replaced for a plastic bag kind of glass. For this would be more accurate than the hard glass the kit supplies. The roof was foldable, so hard glass was no option.

And no decals supplied....
This because Tamiya decided to let them out for it only contained SS markings and Swastikas.
In the manual these markings are all blackened, and the SS license plates are not in the kit.
I'm building this kit OOB, but now I have to go after market, just for the licence plates and markings... Sadly.

This build is going quick as I suspected, so the undercarriage is almost build..
I'm not paying to much attention to detailing the underside, for it will not be visible.





So on the hunt for SS licence plates, this is the end of episode 1

I like the idea of replacing the window, that will make it really delicate to handle though. Depends on the plastic you choose though. It will look 100 times better though.

i have made one a few years back and it is easy to build
but i think why the decals are missing
in Germany ss symbols and swastika's are not allowed so kits that are imported there are opend and the decals are rrmoved and the instructions for them are blacked out (from what i heared)
but eduard makes license plates wich are preprinted aswell really handy stuff

Haha! You know me mate, I'm a PE addict... But the lincence plates will be the only PE parts at this kit.. Promiss!

As for the window, I thinking of using the plastig bake were the clear parts came in. It's a pretty thick and clear bag.
Will do some testing before gluing it in to place though..

But I don't mind, It gives me an excuse to buy som PE parts...
I saw a very good review about the Big Ed lincense plates.
The masks are very handy for you can use them over and over again

And planning to buy a stash of swastikas decal sheets.
That would solve the problem I think.

in that case archer fine transfers may be a option
i have the set for the br52 and that has the full eagle and swastika in it
so they don't have stuff censored and they have.both dry transfers and normal "wet" decals
but there are.not so many dutch shops who have them

Aaaaaaaaaaaand here we are, with another epic update, Dutchman's style!
Well... it's a OOB build (mostly), so nothing to special this time, but I'm only happy when I can do things differently so lets start with the wide indicators.
I didn't liked the ones supplied with the kit, so I did what I always do with things I don't like, I replace them.
(thank god I like my wife eh?)

It's a little trick I often use to replace the wide indicators, you might now this one.
I used straight pins (I think that's how they are called) and I cut them at the right size.
Cut them in a cloth people, to prevent the sharp pin jumping away...

The pins are slightly bigger, but that would be barley noticeable on the model.



Applied a small strip of masking tape at the bottom to re-create a level in the rod, and rolled it into CA glue to secure it.



Here's one in place



And both..



This is what I got so far.
The license plate is going to be replaced by a Coloured PE one... You know me..
Forgot to cut it off.



The tires are temporary fixed with some tack.



Next step will be gluing the body together, but as there are a lot of marks, I'll need to get rid of those for they will be visible in the interior.



But that's for a next time!

Yeah, it's a shame about the pin marks, but this kit is from 1975 so I expected them to be there a lot!
So happy filling and sanding for me! lol

Warning! Fast update!
Dry fitted the figure and steering wheel.
This figure is not cleaned up yet
Also glued the body work on today.









The body needs to be filled with diluted putty for there aer some small seems visible.

Hello boys and girls!

Having weekend know, and I did some filling with putty this Saturday morning.
While that's drying, I decided to give the scratch made windows a try.

Tamiya included clear plastic windows for the side of the roof.
Now, the original roof was a foldable canvas roof, so there would not be hard glass in the roof.
Instead there would be clear soft plastic windows in it.

Here's a pic of the original roof, so that you can see what I'm waffling about



So time to try and make my own.
Tried out different pieces of plastic like cling foil and sandwich bags, but the best plastic for this task is the one from from the bag the sprues came in
Here you can see the windows from Tamiya onto a piece of that bag.



Used the kit part as a template to cut out the new window.



With small strips of masking tape, I made the window bars.
Here's one side done, the other side needs to be done too.



Now, If I would use the kit part glass windows, It would look like this



With my new scratch made plastic windows, It would look like this





The window is temporally fixed with tape, because they will be fixed in to the roof the last.
Also, at the underside of the window there will be a extra strip added that is going to be attached to the car. Like you can see at the first photo. This will be also easier for me to secure the window.

I think this window is much more realistic looking like the real thing.
Better then the kit part anyway. I hope I can pull this off

Hi there again fellas!

Today I Primed and painted the Horch!

Prime ready:



All primed black:



Sprayed the vehicle panzer grey and the rooftop khaki brown.
Pre-shaded all with black, and a second coat of panzer grey and Khaki was applied.
Panzer grey colour I mixed myself with dark grey and black in a 1:4 ratio.
Did a lot of recharge on the colour panzer grey, and it was very dark grey, almost black.
A lot of modellers add a drop of blue, (I did too at first) but there was no blue in panzer grey according online documents.

On this pic it looks a bit too light, but that's mainly because the flash of my camera.

A varnish is applied to finish this paint job.



This is what I got so far.
The wheels and roof is temporary fixed with some tack.





Next up: Making the side windows, and painting the wheels and interior.

Love this car. Easy build, so going fast.
Hoping the side windowswill work out though.
And the colour seems to turned out just a little bit to light, but I'm solving that by adding a dak filter

i think it will work but i would be careful. i would stick to acrylics and apply the window after the weathering. turpentine maybe could attack the clear parts. and glue ... ? ??? white glue or micro kristal clear? maybe white glue

The windows are going in last. I use micro kristal clear to put the windows in. The roof is going on when the interior is finished including the figure, and when the car is weathered. Front window is going to be easy, side windows difficult for I replaced the hard clear plastic parts for scratch build soft plastic parts like the original foldable roof would have.

Nicely done with the paintwork too, the black preshading really works well with the Khaki roof colour...

Right then!
Some small work done, Painted the wheels with a brown/black mix and glued them on.
Painted the seats, and re-painted the rooftop.
Huh? Re-painted? Yes... It was way to brownish... So I used a more khaki green/grey colour.
Needs a bit of pre-shading though.

Wheels and seats painted:



Rooftop re-painted. In my opinion, this colour looks way better to me



Added the plastic bag rear window.
Did wrinkle it a bit to get the folds from letting the roof up and down.



The same I did with the site windows.
Scratch build those too from a plastic sprue bag, and added the window bars made from painted strips of masking tape.
The window is just taped at the top of the roof to see how it would look.
The bottom of the window will be attached to the car, like the real thing. And I need to separate the window at the doors.



I think it looks better then the original kit parts witch I agree with Andy on sucking...

Hello guys!

Another update for ya!

I was thinking to hang something behind this Horch, but I didn't know what...

Mostly these cars pulled A flak canon or a pak 40, But also a Nebelwerfer.
I was looking for a scale Nebelwerfer and found one from Lion Roar, but way to expensive for this build.
If I would do a dio where a nebelwerfer would be central, I would buy this kit, but not for a prop.

BUT! I have read that the ammunition for the nebelwerfer was transported separately for safety reasons in specially designed ammo trolleys.





And I have found one for a good prize.
24 resin parts, and a small sheet of photo etch. YEAH!!

So this is what's going to be pulled by the SS Horch. (sorry for the crappy pic)



Here are the parts.
It's a tiny trolley, kinda cute almost..



Now this is what I have to make from a piece of wire and some photo etch.
The springs.



The easiest way for me to make spings, it to put a drill upside down in a pin vise together with the piece of wire.
This way it is simple to make spings. I needed loose springs, not tight.



Added a long piece of wire form the wheels to the front of the trolley, and put the spring over that wire. Finished it of with the photo etch part, and tataaaa! Great looking springs.






Cleaning up this resin kit was simple to do. Just some small flash and cutting the parts of the cast blocks.
The fenders were a bit tricky to glue on, for there was not much space to glue it on.
This build went very well, that I forgot to make more progress pics...
But I can recommend this kit!


And here's the trolley Almost finished without the ammo boxes.
The wheels are temporary fixed for the pic.



And with the ammo boxes.



And here it is behind the Horch.







I think it looks great and it is something different

if you still want a nebelwerfer there is a alternative for the lion roar kit
modellbau konig (shop) has them under there own brand but it was a limited edition at the time but i had a chat with the owner on a convention and he mentioned that he wanted to order a new batch of them
it is the older italeri kit but there is a pe set for it
and the kit was about €10 so not that expensive

i'm not 100% sure but the lion roar kit is a pe or mostly pe kit

I did saw that Italeri kit somewhere on Ebay, but it was ended. I will keep a eye out for Modellbau Konig, thanks for the tip!

The lion Roar kit is pretty awesome though, It's almost fully PE. The undercarriage is made out of resin with PE parts, The gun itself from PE. Really awesome, but just didn't wanted to pay almost 50 euro ex delivery cost for it
Maybe in the future a vignette wit a nebelwerfer.. Hmmm, some idea's already in my head..... lol

Hello guys!
Small update, I recently bought some division and license plates masks from Eduard, and this update will show the working and quality of them.

This is the division mark I'm using:
SS Freiwilligen-Panzergrenadier-Division Netherlands (niederländische Nr. 1)
Taped to the vehicle.




And sprayed white.
Some overspray, but that would be taken care of while weathering.
Next time a bit more masking I guess..



The SS license plates had more work.
First I sprayed the plates white and taped the numbers on.
This had to be done very carefully for it has to be absolutely straight..



Then Sprayed the numbers black.



Carefully pulled all tape off again, and this is what I've got.



Looks freaking awesome to me!
And yeah... Got to learn to mask properly ... more touching up to do

Anyways, Love these masks!
Crisp letters and markings. Just be sure to mask it really well.

I'm working on the ammo trolley right know, primed it and looking for pics of them to see if they had markings on them too.
