the omelette with an identity crisis

Post by MarkVerploeg »

hi guys
so i found a kit for this at the last minute
Image
i was hoping for a flanker but the j-15 looks like it any way
and after some research on the real plane i found that the j-15 is a chinese build plane using the airframe of the su-33 flanker
the only difference is that all the internals are chinese
but enough of the serious stuff it's fun time
and this is what make's it possible

Image
decals and mini instructions

Image
the bag of parts

Image
Image
Image
all that is in the box (the lowest partcount in years for me)

Image
mmmmmmmmmmm makes you think

Image
this is what hasegawa thinks it should look like but i don't agree with them
because this is what i want
Image
atleast this is what i hope to end up with
this is from the instructions of the eduard su-27ub but looks sooooo good
and that is where the identity crisis comes in as this is a chinese plane feeling like a ukranian jet

first update will follow soon
cheers and good luck with all your build

Looks like they mainly used the yoke to make it. Bet it's a fun build.

i made a small start and the fuselage halfs are already glued
but it is a funny thing to build
highly recommended as a less serious build project

hi guys
so like the rest of you i was a bit EGGcited about this sig
so once the rules allowede me to start i went for it
i never made a eggplane before so it was a big suprise that it was this easy (so far)
all the parts fit very well and making this went at racing speed
so here is the progress so far
Image

Image
the landing gear will be added later

Image

Image
mini missiles

Image
the pilots , i'm not sure wich i will use but for the fun of it i think i put in the girl

Image
the landing gear
here is the only filling i did and that could be required and that is on the wheels to fill in those gaps that you can see here

Image
and a final test fitting with the girly pilot in the control seat

i can find only one flaw in this little kit and that is the very shallow panel lines
but i don't own a scribing tool so i just leave them as they are
they are fun little build though and some thing easy is nice once in a while
so until next time
cheers Mark

The markings look like those crash test stickers on the side of the car and dummies.

If you want the omelette you have to crack (crash) the egg...

hi guys
i think it is about time i did a update on my eggie
so since the last time it was primed and painted
the masking was far from easy as the curved shape off the eggplane makes it hard to get masking tape to sit on the surface
but i think it got the job done
and here are the progress pictures

Image
here the priming is done
the nose cone is painted aswell and masked to protect it from the following paint colors
and a nasty scratch in in plain sight this was sanded and respayed with primer

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
for this build i used paints from the mr hobby aqius(or something like that) the water based paint
all the paints are the same as the ones given in my su-27ub kit except for the wheels those are painted with revell antracite
there is one mistake i made and that is that i didn't use the correct order of painting the camo colors
i started with the light grey that covers the entire plane
then i masked the parts that should remain light grey
then i sprayed the blue (this is the mistake)
this is followed by some more masking to cover the blue parts
then is was painted with the dark grey

after that the part on the right front side is masked to paint the steel plate cover around the gun
this was painted with gunmetal grey as where the exhaust
the only thing that needs painting are the 2 missiles for the wings but i screwed up the paint so i had to start over on those

and that is all i have for now
so i hope you like it and thanks for watching
cheers Mark

thanks mate
i'm happy with it so far
but all the mr hobby paints are either gloss or semi gloss
so it's nice and shiny at the moment
but some varnish will fix that when i come to that step of the build

That looks like some complex masking you've had to do. Looking good.

i was thinking it would take about 4 to 5 hours mask but it was done in about 45 minutes

too bad you couldn't get one

hi guys
so it is the second day of easter don't know if this is a common thing but in the Netherlands we have 2 days of easter
and i thought i could do some work on the egg plane
well in all honesty i forgot about the whole thing after my decal debacle
last time i painted the egg so now i continue with the plne and a little base i made for it

Image
Image
Image
so i gave it a coat of klear to get a smooth surface for the decals
then i applied the decals wich where the worst i ever had to work with
i selected 16 decals and i ended up with 8 on the model all the rest got torn or even fell apart as i soaked them in water
the nation insignia's are decals aswell but i painted them before i used them and these became more durable thanks to the paint
next i had another coat of clear and then some mig dark wash wich was mostly removed using some white spirit
as a final step i used some matt/flat varnish and i called it done

Image
then i started with the base
this is made from blue styrofoam and balsa wood and they are all scrap pieces so it looks a bit rough in the beginning

Image
i then went nuts with a knife and removed a layer of the foam in 1 corner as there will be sand in that spot
the rest of the surface was sanded to get a rough surface so the woodglue i used next would have a better grounding to stick to
then i cut some pieces of sanding paper (150 grain) to use as the tarmac
and some sand mixed with water and white glue for the patch of sand
that was then covered with some static grass
the tarmac was painted black and then misted with Vallejo modelair dark grey
i did that 3 or 4 times to get a dark grey finish wich kind of resembles real tarmac

Image
i then started on some runway lights
these are made from 2 sizes of styrene tube wich fit in eachother
i then glued on a rim using 0.5 mm lead wire
once dry i made the 2 bows covering the lightbulp

Image
i also made a small runway sign just from a folded piece of styrene sheet
this was painted in Vallejo red and i found some leftover decals in my decals stash for the numbers

Image
then i placed the lights and sign in the grass and after some masking i spayed on the the markings on the tarmac
this is done with mr hobby yellow number 3 or 4 i believe
and that is how i made the base

Image
and here it is with the egg plane in place

and that is all i have for you
i think this build is completed so for more pics i will put them in the reveal section
so i hope you like it and let me know what you think of this
keep on modelling
cheers Mark
