Panzer IV H Dragon

Hi everyone! My first thread here and my third ever model build. Ive done a churchill mark 3 that went all pete tong on me. And a sherman firefly that I put the tracks the wrong way... was very tired and look at the wrong picture.

Since Im a teacher I love putting up goals

Inspiration for the build: Book swedes at war and a photo of a swedish panzer commander Nils Rosen in his panzer IV
Goals: Wintercamo, ostketten, zimmerit focus on chipping and wintercamo.
Finish should be a 3 panzer divison, panzer IV auf H in Ukraine winter 43/44 . But when im finished with dropping it to many times maby a panzer II

Fell free to input and your opinions on the work. Ill be most happy if you would give some constructive criticism. With painting or the order of things or "maby you should have done this".´Im use to barking at students now its my turn to get some feedback

Haha... I don't think that dropping tanks causes them to divide haha....

Tnx. Coen Ive sen you holding on to your model with some contraption. How do you do? Drill? Superglue?

Its a piece of dowel that I've drilled a hole in the end. Then I shoved a screw for a fly nut in the hole and glued it there with carpenter's glue.
The nuts are for spacing and the washer goes in slide the model to keep the plastic from getting too stressed.

A day of chipping and ott chipping! Waiting for cavalry brown from vallejo to come home to me for some oxidrot painting where the zimmerit damages are. Been a good practice run for chipping.

That is some beautiful mud effect on the chassis.. especially on the suspension .... I could never get that kind of mud effect....

Today been working on the exhaust.

1. Gloss yellow
2: thinned acrylic rust colors
3. pigment mapping? around the edges with dark and lighter on the exhaust

Thank you!!! Those kind words inspires me go for wood today! Not wood like morning wood but trying to paint wood. Just so you know.

I had the ak interactive "realistic wood effect" to guide. Mmmm first try and Im kinda happy with the axe. Next time even thinner paint and try even smaller lines.

Like the little engine that could this little tank keeps on going through the mud. Little angry man with mustasch of death have giving the panzer some ostketten to get away from the reds.

Its getting there close to beeing finished

Complete and utter failure with the streaking!! Left it on to long and couldnt stomp em!! Utter failure with zimmerit damages.
Happy with the pinwash and the mud. Still some work with the mud and some painting here and there.

Good learning process.

looks good mate
as for a pinwash i would start with a grey color some what light grey
it could be that this turns out to ligjt but you can add a darker wash once it is dry
if needed ofcourse

Was going for the greyish mig wash, but went with my own oil light brown pinwash.

yeah that was my bad
i didn't see there was another page
but i did see you didn't completely like the streaks
but that is very hard on zimmerit as the dirt would flow in the ridges
before going down any further
but again it is a stunner

. Over the zimmerit and left them on for 20hours before stomping with white spirit. To long cause the paint had completly dried...

Lesson learned! Maby can hide some with stowage. Planing my first diorama, a early spring diorama.

As a headmaster I do love homework. That means that I do my own homework before starting something new. The array of books and dvds is quite ample already and Ill be quite happy to read them for you since I'm a educated teacher and accustomed to helping children.

tnx for the best comment Ive ever got. But look closer there are alot and I mean alot of mistakes! Most parts i had no clue what I was doing.

its covered under a layer of pigments.

Getting along with the diorama. Tree made of steelwire and electric wire then covered with putty. Das clay ontop of small pieces of wood that you put in a flowerpot.

Added vallejo Brown earth, sand and stones. Made trackmarks.

Next step is spraying some diffrent tones. Retouch tree and paint the stones. Im a bit in the dark after that. So any help would be most appreciated.

I didnt like the tree so added a branch. Tree color is a mix of tamiya flat Brown and dark grey. Swedish tabacco is very important for the finish.

Putty and acrylic resin for the branch. Shadows n damp areas xf 10

XF-64 light covering and xf-52 as highlights.

Getting along with oilcolors. Im doing the same as i did with the panzer just this time having a layer of gloss to make it look WET. Ive worked with oilcolors when i paint and I Always put it on paper to dry it out. Then just a few drops of white spirit and then splash away

Didn't you miscount there by say a few dozen.

Great stuff. I like 'm dirty too! And the dio is coming along nicely too!

Can't wait to see more great stuff come rolling down from the Gustav Line!

Update. I changed my mind for complete mud to grassy wet stepps.

Barrels ready and snow tamiya texture paint with a blue oil filter to make it "cold" Gonna drybrush and give it a wash or two to see what works. If it dont works Im gonna try something else on the edges of the diorama.

Got the figures LOVE EM!

Added some stowage to hide failiure

Broke off convoy lights and lost it. Gonna replace it later on.......

Na mate, you are better of watching Coen ramble on!

I got a way for painting rust that I'm happy with.

1. First layer. Gloss yellow. With spots off gloss red and gloss orange.
2. Thinned layers of rust colours. I use darker rust on the edges.
2.b Add objects color if needed or retouch if you do hairspray. Like jerrycans were painted dunkelgelb.
3. Rust pigments
4. Varnish after environment.
5. Speckling. Oil colors that you splash on with your finger and a stiff brush. I always "dry" out the oil before working with oil paint. I've been painting with oil colors for a couple of years. Add turpentine or white spirit. Different amount give different seize spots.
6. Varnish?

Ok back to work on "Nils Rosen" panzer IV. Figure painting. Never done figures before but I practice highlights and shadows on my Sherman.

Prepwork. Grey primer to see the different lights.

Highlights done

Shadows done. Added some blue so they look really cold

Vallejo
Eyewhite white + scarlet
Pupil English uniform + black then I've put blue grey for the color of the eyes and flat brown for the other one.

Skin red beige + old pink
Highlight base + basic flesh
Shadow base + burnt cad red + gloss

White pants
Sky grey + black + Russian uniform
Highlights base + offwhite
H2 base + white

Snowhat
Fieldgrey
Highlights base + yellowgreen
Shadows base + dark green + black

This is what I've finished today

hope the "white pants" turn out more white when the rest is painted!
