i heard the Vallejo acrylic paints are good for brush painting. im a beginner and im trying to work out what paints i need for certain model aircraft. could you explain this please http://www.cybermodeler.com/aircraft/bf ... le02.shtml

First up if you want to do mottling (leopard spots) it is going to be very difficult without using an airbrush. The only way I have seen it done by hand was using a lot of different sized round brushes applying heavily thinned paint. It can be done but to get that faded edge look it really is airbrush only.

Second point to make is range of colour. All the manufacturers have gaps in the colours they have and a lot of the colours are suspect in accuracy for World War II aircraft. So at your beginner stage don't get hung up on them just yet.

Ease of access to paint should be a consideration. Revell, Humbrol and indeed Vallejo acrylics are all very good for brush painting. You cannot use Tamiya or Mr Hobby as they are spray only. I have never used Model masters so I cannot advise you on whether you can brush paint with them. But as a starter in the hobby I think access to paint locally would be better for now.

Vallejo have some nice sets you can purchase that do all the RLM colors but I cannot attest to there accuracy.

Lastly get used to the idea of using many different paints because all us modelers love to horde the precious.

Word of warning, Cybermodeler just puts up the color instructions, quite literally scans in many cases, from the model manufacturer. They aren't always the correct color. This is especially true of Russian aircraft.
